I have taken Prozac or Fluoxetine, off and on for about ten years. Every time I quit taking it, I feel horrible and go into worse depression than I had to start with. For the first week I start taking it again (I have gone off and on it many many times) I have joint pain and flu symptoms. The first time I took Prozac, I thought I was having a really bad side effect, which I guess I was. But I kept going with it, at my doctors' requests. Usually I feel no better at all for many months. In fact, this last time I started it again (last December) After about 8 days I felt much worse depression and almost quit taking it. My lastest doctor wants me to try a combo of prozac and wellbutrin and also xanax as needed. My depression does seem to have gotten a little better, but not too much and not as much as I would like. I wish I felt like I had ten years ago when I was depressed and started these pills! Even though I felt horrible then, it's better than now. However, every time I QUIT taking prozac, I have major horrible problems, suicidal type depression. Another side effect I have is that it gives me intense, very vivid dreams and/or nightmares. This can be good or bad, usually bad. Also, I found that I MUST take the prozac all in the morning, because if I take it at bedtime it make me stay awake. For anyone out there about to try it, be sure you trust your doctor and look into the product (do research). I'd also like to add that I have tried many many other types of antidepressants over the years, and this wellbutrin/prozac combo seem to be (for me) as good as it gets, which isn't that great. I am intrigued by adds on TV for Cymbalta, so after it's been out there a while I might look into trying that because I do have a lot of body pains too. Good luck!
