Flor Carpet Tiles —

I had seen FLOR carpet tiles in magazines and liked the concept and look of them, but I resisted actually buying them because I was dubious that they'd actually work. Big Mistake! In person, they look great and even better, they work fantastically well too.

If you don't know exactly what FLOR tiles are, they are essentially 20" x 20" square tiles of carpeting that you can configure into a rug or even wall-to-wall carpet. They arrive in boxes and the first thing you'll notice is how heavy and sturdy they are, with a solid backing as well as stickers used to keep them in place. This addressed part of my initial concern - I thought they would slide around, but that wasn't the case AT ALL. Ours have been installed for over a year now and they are still in perfect position.

In terms of installation, you can literally do it yourself, although if you have a big space, two people working together is best to make sure everything lines up. If you are installing them as a rug, you need NOTHING else...no staples, no tape or crazy tools. If you are going to install them as a carpet, you might have to cut them to size to fit so that could be trickier, but overall - I was impressed with the ease of everything. I personally installed a medium sized rug and a small entryway rug and it took me less than 2 hours in total (and that's with me being a PERFECTIONIST about it lining up).

Interface FLOR tiles are a perfect if you have a dog, messy husband, kids, or just get tired of the same old look all the time. If you spill something, pick up a tile, wash it out, and put it back in place. If you have a dog named Bamboo or at least one with similar, um, habits, you will find this extremely useful. If you decide that you're tired of stripes, you can easily mix it up.

But if I just talked about how easy they were to use, I'd be missing the best part - AMAZING DESIGNS. They have an enormous array of styles, colors, patterns and textures. You can be extraordinarily bold with color or patterns or totally neutral too. Mine are gray, orange and citrine - and I love them. But I equally love the Disney tiles for kids...and well, they have SO many I couldn't possibly list here that you should just check out the site (psst - the skulls design is pretty fun!). I believe that one of the best parts of the FLOR product is actually their website and how easy they make things for you. They have tons of design galleries for inspiration and a helpful calculator tool to make planning your space a breeze. You can even order small sample packs so you can try before you buy.

Last but not least, FLOR tiles are recyclable and as a company, FLOR is committed to being environmentally responsible. At the end of the day, that might be the true definition of "Great design."

Hmmm - let me look around here, I probably have some extra stickers somewhere. Or, maybe you can check out DWR or CB2 because both stores carry FLOR in the stores and maybe they can sell you just the stickers.

Funny story. FLOR rented our house a few years ago for a photo shoot for their catalog. We liked the carpet tiles so much we installed them under our dining room table. They look cool and it was fun and easy to do. My only comment is that one of the tiles is moving around and I don't know where to get replacement stickies.

Do it - I truly love them, will tell you the story of bamboo's latest 'incident' and you'll see why.

The stickers don't attach to the floor, they get placed with the sticky side up attaching each of the tiles to each other in the corners, if that makes sense. So you have nothing actually sticking to the floor. Awesome, trust me!

If you stick them to the floor - how do you "pick up a tile to wash it out?"
