Flight of the Conchords —
This is an adorably oddball little show about two New Zealand musicians living in New York and trying to make it as electro-folk musicians. Jerome and Brett are slightly strange bandmates of the band Flight of the Conchords who live together in a tiny NYC apartment (much more like what real people could afford in the BIg Apple than most TV shows!). Their manager is another New Zealander who works as a Travel Agent and hosts band meetings in his office over lunch break. Other characters include the girls Jerome and Brett occassionally date and the Flight of the Conchords Fan Club - which consists of one scary-obsessed married woman who seems to be the band's sole fan.
This is a very funny show but only if you have a very specific sense of humor. The comedy is very very dry and the situations are not in the least realistic, though still grounded in the basic reality of starving artists in the big city. The actors are all terrificly straight-faced and have completely ridiculous conversations without cracking a single expression. Oh, and they periodically burst into song.
The most traditionally funny scenes are the musical numbers, which each parody a genre of song and often a specific music video, or style of music video. This tends to divide the comedy into two parts, the dry situational surrealist comedy of the non-musical parts, and the song parodies, appreciation of which may depend on your knowledge of and enjoyment of music and music videos.
The trouble with recommending this show to people is that very often people who love one aspect of the show just won't get the other. The sense of humor in my family is pretty much precisely aligned with Flight of the Conchords, but they won't understand the music videos at all. However, the songs themselves are pretty darn good in and of themselves, and the humor is pretty well-spaced between in-the-know parody and being flat-out funny in themselves. While a lot of people won't appreciate the humor, those who do will be big fans.
If you want to check out Flight of the Conchords, a lot of the musical parts are up on YouTube. Try out "I'm Not Crying" or "It's Business Time", or (my favorite) "We Are Robots". Or just get the whole 1st season, which just went up for sale on Amazon.

Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The band is made up of Bret McKenzie on guitar and vocals, and Jemaine Clement on guitar and vocals.
Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. So far they've managed to find a manager (whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop) -- but not much else.
