When my daughter bought a new car at Fitz Mall in Frederick last year, she had a good experience. She got a good deal and everything went smoothly. They told me that I should come back when I was ready to purchase a car even though I live in another state. They said they get a lot of customers from out of state. Well, recently I made the trip to the Gaithersburg Fitz Mall because Frederick didn't sell the brand of car I wanted. Every thing went downhill from that point.
1. From the time I expressed interest in a car until the time I chose the exact car (FOUR DAYS), Fitzgerald raised the price of the car $600!
2. They offered an incredibly low-ball amount for my trade-in. It was an immaculate 3 year old SUV in a hot style and color. They will have no trouble reselling it. The salesman I dealt with was fine. It was the manager of the dealership who was difficult. I think he felt that having driven 3 hours to the dealership I would make any deal they offered. He was wrong. When he realized I was willing to leave without buying anything, he managed to come up with just enough to make me buy, but not enough to make me write a favorable review here.
Hindsight is 20-20 and I'm pretty sure I could have gotten a similar deal at home. If I lived in the area, I'd probably consider buying from them again as long as I wasn't trading anything in. I guess this experience just proves the old saying, "The grass is always greener on the other side!"
