UPDATE: August 21st, 2009, 10:10pm: I have been using this app for awhile now and so far I have lost 40 lbs! Yay! So it really does help - you just have to stick to it and add in an exercise regimen. I recommend it to everyone who needs to lose weight. I'm still using it to help keep me in line.

***

I decided to try out this app because it's free and I'm still trying to lose the baby weight from having my daughter 19 months ago (ugh!). I figured, "What the heck - it's free!"

Well, this is the best free app I've ever downloaded! It tracks everything - your weight gain/loss, your calories, exercises and the calories they burn, and even your nutrients such as minerals and vitamins! It also tells you the percentages of carbs, protein, and fat you consume everyday and also weekly at the end of the week.

It has a large database of food that is supplied via http://www.esha.com. You do sometimes have to enter in your own foods but it's so easy that it's no big hassle. When you enter in an item that isn't in the database, it saves it in your "My Foods" section so you can easily access it again.

It also has a chart that plots out your weight gain or loss so you can easily see the pattern.

I've only been using this app for a week and it has totally changed my eating habits! I didn't realize that I was consuming so many fatty foods and carbs. This app makes it so much easier to balance out your diet and to see if you need to cut back in certain areas.

Many free apps out there aren't really worth the time and energy it takes to use them - even if they are free. But this one is fabulous! I'm so happy that I've downloaded it. I use it all the time and it's SO much easier than writing down everything I eat and all the calories and fat and such. Lose It! makes my life so much easier. For anyone who needs to lose weight, gain weight, or just keep track of their consumption, this is a great app for your iPod Touch and iPhone. Definitely a must have!

If you have any questions about this app, please let me know! Leave me a comment or send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I believe that the app doesn't need any connectivity past downloading and installing on the iphone or itouch. I turned off all wifi and put it into airplane mode and it still searches its food database and functions normally. I've lost about 25 pounds since I've used this app, and not because it does it for me, but because it is extraordinarily quick and easy to access and use effectively. Most of us eat the same foods often, and once you enter a new food, or pick from the extensive listings that it provides, they are ready for quick viewing and you can enter your foods every day and easily see where you stand on calories. The reason this app works is because I don't carry around a laptop or ledger all the time, and I carry my iPhone all the time. This app is kind of like an "instant conscience" that you can pull out of your pocket and instantly be reminded to forego another soda or donut. See my review at iTunes App Store under the name FUNAMBULISTO!

In response to MarisaP's comment from Oct 26, 2009 at 2:36PM:

With the iPod Touch, you don't have to have a data plan or anything like that - it connects to the internet via a wi-fi connection so you'll need to have a wireless router for it to work. With the iPhone I'm not sure - you'd have to talk to an AT&T person about that.

Do you need to have a data plan for the itouch or can this app work without it?
