In 2004 I purchased a Fisher-Paykel Double Drawer dishwashing unit. For a short while it worked. Then, the Jet Dry fluid holder leaked and was repaired twice under warranty. After the warranty, it leaked for the third time and was no longer used. Guess what: it made NO difference to the quality of the wash. It was clean with Jet Dry and clean without it.
Under warranty, the F1 light came on, indicating a flooded drain pan. The repairman also had to install a new mainboard. The repair approached about $300.00. There were a few other visits for minor hassles. I was so furious at the constant repair calls that Fisher-Paykel actually extended the warranty to a third year.
The last 2 years I've just put up with it. It still does get the dishes clean. But the two drawers MUST be used together, perfectly synchronized to the point where I put my fingers on the start button, think "one, two, three Start!" and push both together. Otherwise one will back up into another to the point where water has to be manually bailed out. And, the dirty dishwater requires that the load be done again for health reasons.
The last charming habit it's acquired is a bit of mental confusion. It does not know if it is on or off. So, I do a cold boot by pulling the plug for about an hour. This seems to help its memory.
This week the little demon has flooded three times. I've learned to clean it out and shut up the F1 noise by mopping out the drain pain and finishing the drying off with a hair dryer: just what I'd expect to have to do after spending $1200.00 on the thing. After the third flood this week, I decided that I've done my time, amortized it, and am moving on. Many repairmen don't fix them either, so beware. They look nice, but you won't look or feel nice after coping with an F1 or bailing dirty water out of it. It is also not self cleaning. YOU have to wipe some very nasty gunk out of it from time to time.
Obviously, I don't recommend it.
