This Fisher Price Baby Monitor is a best bet for the money.

When I was pregnant with my first, I had no idea what I really needed.  I especially had no idea about what I would need in a baby monitor.  This Fisher Price monitor looked good to me. We knew we were in the process of moving and didn't know the size house we would end up buying so we opted for a long distance monitor just to be safe. Fast forward two years. We now have 2 children. I simply LOVE this monitor.  The home we bought is quite large and spread out. Other monitors do not work in several rooms, but this one works all over the house and into the yard.  I love that it has a light indicator as well as sound. It helps us not need to have the volume up so loud on the receiver.  This monitor is very sensitive. When we had it set up somewhat close to the crib, I could hear every breath that my baby took. Even with the base unit sitting quite close to the cd player that is playing all night, I can still hear every toss and turn and rustle of covers.  The nightlight feature is quite nice for when I want to just sneak a peek at my boy's sweet face. I wish the batteries lasted longer. I wish I had multiple receivers. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. We've used this one for 2 years DAILY with no problems whatsoever.

Very happy with this monitor

This monitor was given to use shortly before our baby was born. At the time we received it-we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment and it worked great. We tested it outside inside all the rooms and had no problems. The same day our son was born we ended up closing on our new house. We moved into a 4 bedroom house with a basement-pretty much double the space we had. We brought our new monitor with us and guess what-still worked great. We used it upstairs, downstairs, outside, in the garage and always had great reception. We thought we would really need to receivers, but we never really felt like we were missing out. One receiver worked great and I love that you can carry it with you if necessary or plug it back in. The only cons I found was that it has a really short batter life. Once the original batter runs out, no matter what type of batter is put in-it sucks it dry. The other issue I had was several instances where I had annoying feedback for no reason. It would go away, but it would happen every couple days then go away for a while and come back. Never figured out what the problem was. The only other thing I noticed was that background noise seemed kind of loud. Even when my son wasn't crying or making noise the white noise coming from the monitor seemed loud. I even had someone visiting one day and they asked what the noise was. Not sure how to take care of that. But the cons really don't bother me enough to get use something else.

Good but not great monitor

4

We registered and received this monitor almost two years ago when expecting our first child. We were looking for a mid-range monitor that was reliable but did not necessarily have tons of bells and whistles. This monitor is really reliable and has great distance. We have used it now for two years and have been very satistfied at the value for the money. There is a drawback in the sound adjusment which is a rolling knob. The volume goes from really low to really high but if you just want it in between there really isn't a good adjustment for that, you either have to have the monitor blasting or so quiet you can't really hear it. It also has red lights that light up according to how loud the sound is in the baby's room so you can tell if it's just a rustling of the covers or a cry by how many lights are lit. The on button that lets you know it is plugged in is a little bright and needs to be dimned, but for the price it's very worth it.

Excelent I walk to the bus

This is really long distance. I was worried because I have to walk to the end of the block for the kids' bus & that's of course when my daughter sleeps but this is great. It will however not work as well if the battery is weak & it picks up everything so when there is a fan on in the room I can hear that, but I ALWAYS here the baby even when I am outside the the older oned which is alot.

Clear transmission, even at a long distance.

I purchased the Fisher Price Long Distance 900 Mhz Baby Monitor in June of 2008.  I tested the range of it before having my son and was pleasantly surprised.  I put the base in his room upstairs in our 5000sf home with the radio playing.  I walked down the street and could still hear it clearly 2 houses away.  I have used it when he is napping and I need to work on the back of our property and have never had a problem.  With the multiple channels it is easy to find one that is clear.  I usually leave it plugged in when using it all night because the battery life isn't as long as I would like and it doesn't take rechargable batteries.  The background noise is comparable to other monitors but you get used to it quickly.  It pick up on small squeaks and moans your baby makes so I don't have to have it turned up too loud to hear the baby fussing.  Another bonus is when you are busy and don't want to hear it the lights show you when there is noise in baby's room.  I really like this monitor, but the only complaint is the lack of battery life and not taking rechargable batteries.
