Fisher Price Light and Sounds Monitor Review Summary

As one of the most reviewed baby monitors, the Fisher Price Light and Sounds Monitor receives mixed reviews from parents here at Viewpoints. With batteries that last quite a while, the Lights and Sounds Monitor lets you hear what baby is doing and provides a “soothing light” for baby. In general, users of the Fisher Price Baby Monitor are “amazed at its clarity” where you can “hear every little squeak and coo.” Though many parents comment on their Lights and Sounds Monitor picking up interference from electronics, other monitors in the neighborhood and the house in general. Although the Fisher Price Lights and Sounds does start out wonderfully “as time went on it became harder to hear baby” or the monitor quit working all together after 4-6 months. Make your comparison by reading what parents think of other baby monitors.

We bought this one for our second child as an inexpensive alternative to the larger more expensive models.  It was well worth the money.  The nightlight feature is wonderful and I really can't complain.  Every once in a while we hear strange things on the receiver, but it's… read full review »

We purchased this monitor for our first child.  It had everything I thought I wanted.  Two channels to switch between, it lit up so I could turn it down and watch TV without the sound, and it had a night light.  The only thing I still like about it is the night light. —… read full review »

I bought this monitor while pregnant with my third child, because I had always trusted Fisher Price products.  The first couple of months all went well, and everything worked outstandingly. They were fairly clear, and worked pretty well. — A couple of negatives: you can hear AM radio stations very low, but clearly! There are only 2 channels, and if your neighbors have one, you hear their conversations, vice-versa. Keep these AWAY from other electronic products (alarm clock, cell phone charging, tv's...) or you will get a tremendous amount of feedback. —  About 5… read full review »

I purchased this monitor while I was still pregnant. We had a very tight budget in which we could use towards baby stuff and I thought we would need a monitor. It was very easy to set up and the price tag was perfect but I hate it. I wish I had saved the packaging because if I had, I would have been able to return it and put the $25 towards a different, better quality monitor. The microphone is great. So good in fact that I can hear when the cats walk past his closed door but I can't sleep over all the static. After using it only twice it has now just because a night light for us. We live in… read full review »

After having our second child, and in a much bigger house this time around, we decided we needed to invest in a baby monitor.  I bought this one, because the price was right, but once I brought it home, I realized why it was so cheap.  — — All we could ever get on it was static, that or the neighbor's (they have a baby monitor), or the radio.  I tried both channels, I tried putting the monitor and receiver in different areas of the house, nothing worked.  I finally packed up back up and returned them--they were not worth the hassle.  It has been much… read full review »

The Fisher Price Light and Sounds monitor works great.  It was easy to set up - you just need 4 aa batteries and you are set.  It comes with a base for the baby's room that has a built in night light that is great.  It also comes with two receivers.  They are ac adaptable or battery operated.  Either way the sound is good.  The lights are interesting, but you have to be awake to see them.   A down side to the monitor is the amount of light the receivers put off when in use in your bedroom at night.  My husband complains about how bright the… read full review »

My husband and I are new parents and we were given an old monitor to use for our newborn.  We learned quickly that some pick up other noises (such as nearby phone lines) and also have a lot of feedback noise.  This got on our nerves as it kept us up more than the sound of our crying baby.  We went looking for another monitor asap.  When we found the lights and sounds one I was interested and decided it HAD to be better than what we were using.  Sure enough, we used it the first night and were amazed at it's clarity and that soothing light made it nice for the baby as… read full review »

When I first sarted using this monitor, I lived in a house.  The monitor worked great without any interfearance.  It picked up every little sound that my son would make.  We have since relocated to an apartment and it still picks up my sons movements pretty good, but it also has some light static interfearance.  It is not enough to keep me awake at night, but it is quite noticeable at higher volumes.  I even had to use it without the power adapter for the monitor for a couple weeks after the move (we lost the adapter).  Batteries lasted for 1 week, using it for… read full review »

We got this monitor for our new baby, and it's amazing the things you can hear on it.  I like the fact that we can plug it in next to our bed, and we can hear everything.  If he moves his leg, we can hear the fabric ruffle.  Any little cough or noise, even the dog walking in his room, we can hear.  We turn it down pretty low, but we can still hear everything.  I like being able to clip it to my pants if I need to do something outside, and it's range is far enough for me to go to the end of the driveway and still hear him.  Occasionally, we do hear static, but… read full review »

Good sturdy product that helped ease the worries that my wife has when it is time to sleep, whenever we are afforded that luxury. It is a great gift to yourself whenever you can give yourself a sense of comfort and safety. Without this my wife would be unable to sleep soundly. It works well as you can even hear your infant breathing or even mumbling to him/herself. Plus when the kids get older they can use them as walkie-talkies. Maybe even for communication with your spouse while in different areas of the home -- we haven't used it in this manner but it should work fine. We'll try it out and… read full review »

When we put our son in his own room we constantly wanted to check on him. This monitor set has saved us from many sleepless nights. We can hear him breathing, turning, talking in his sleep, etc. It has been wonderful. We have not had any problems with picking up phone conversations. There is feedback when our cell phone rings nearby, but this also happens with radios, etc, so it was not a surprise. The volume works well, as does the sensitivity of the light display in comparission to the sounds being picked up. We probably keep ours on for 15 hours out of the… read full review »

I have both purchased and returned this product within a week. I was on my porch, just outside the window to the room that my baby was sleeping in (thank god) and I had the monitor on...mind you, it was working just an hour before this incident and it is 2 days old... I could hear my child cry through the window, but not over the monitor! After calming the baby, my boyfriend and I tested the monitor and it did not work on either channel. The next day we tested it again and it did work... what is the point of a monitor if you can't rely on it actually… read full review »

I am a first time parent and was unsure about what baby monitor to get. Most monitors I had done research on had gotten bad reviews. I decided to just leap in and get the Fisher Price Lights and Sounds monitor since it was a trusted brand. I am very happy I did because it is one of the best monitors on the market. It picks up even the smallest sound coming from my baby's room including her breathing. Makes me feel much safer when I cannot be in there. I highly recommend this product to any first time parents or even those on their second or third… read full review »

We have a small house, and didn't need a deluxe monitor, so we choose this one. It has 2 receivers, which is very convenient to keep one in 2 different places in the house. I like that it can be clipped to your clothes or belt. I like that it runs off of batteries when you unplug the ac adaptor. — The lights are important in a monitor so that when we are in the living room, watching tv or listening to music, we can see the monitor if we don't always hear it. — I DO NOT like that you cannot use the nightlite without turning on the monitor. —… read full review »

I received this as a gift for my third baby.  I was excited about the appearance, it is a cute product and the night light feature would be nice in the nursery.  However, while setting it up, I realized that I could not hear the baby's room because a local radio station was coming through.  I know that this has to do with our location, but this is a cheap system without a lot of available channels.  I ended up returning the monitor and digging out my old monitor that I used with my 8 year… read full review »
