We bought this kitchen set for our daughter's first Christmas, knowing that she was a bit young to actually use it at the time (she was only 3 1/2 months old).  Soon enough, though, she started sitting up and was very into it.  Her little eyes would light up at the sound of the music and songs, and she figured out how to open and close the refrigerator and oven doors.  She still does play with this toy to this day, but does not really go near the "living room" side, as there are hardly any activities to do on that side of the toy.  I was a bit disappointed with how many activities there are overall, but it is a cute learning toy, as it does focus on opposites (telling you when lights are on/off, door is open/closed, up/down, etc.).  It makes noises and sings songs that my daughter seems to like and also has counting sounds as well as the ABCs.  She loves the fact that when she crawls/crouches down and goes over the plastic "rug", sounds and music come on.

I do not think, as the manufacturer suggests, that this toy is appropriate for children up to three years old.  I believe that children that age will get very bored with this item, as there really is not too much to keep a three year old busy, and I have been working with children of all ages and abilities for over fifteen years.
