I love hearing my daughter sing. Claire adores music. Most of the time, she is able to hear the music I choose for her, because we are home together. But since she is the youngest of my 8 children, that is not always the case. There are times that her older siblings are doing homework, and we need quiet. There are even more frequent times that we are in the car, and everyone wants to hear their own music. With the older siblings all having their own music devices, such as iPods, Claire wanted to hear music, too. Thank goodness for Fisher Price!

This FP3 player (I love that name!) is sturdy, easily surviving falls, of which there have been many. The design is well thought out. Claire was barely 3 when she received it, but had no trouble learning to work the intuitive buttons. The software that comes with the player allows the parent to choose from pre-created icons (of which F.P. needs to offer WAY more, perhaps on their website) or to "draw" their own. I am unable to draw much of anything using a computer mouse, so we have some pretty funky looking icons, but Claire accepts them and uses them just fine.

Since I have many books on CD, we quickly ran out of room on the player. I was frustrated, trying to prioritize the songs and stories she most frequently requested, but I taking things on and off was a hassle. So then I added a memory card--a 2 GB one! It was on sale, and though FP didn't say it was supported, it works great! I can put all MY music on there, too. It's overkill, but at least I can tell you it works. This little player will work for her for many years with that kind of storage.

The operation of the software is a bit klunky. It tends to give errors that require restarting the software. However, once it is running, it is a simple drag and drop interface. It does a smooth job of converting most songs and stories (like from Scholastic books) to the FP3 format.

Finally, I also purchased the speakers. These have been great to have for when Claire wants to share her music, or simply doesn't with to wear the headphones. The sound quality is completely adequate. All in all, this has been a great purchase, and I highly recommend it for any little music lover in your family!
