Off! Skintastic

Off! Skintastic

JUL

2008
Dear Friends, —     —     I cannot praise enough the effectiveness of Off Skintastic.  It is by far the best I have used.  With 15% DEET  it does the job without overdoing it.  Though DEET has been shown to be non-toxic when used as directed, I am very cautious when using these products. —     It is wonderful to have such a useful product and not smell like you were bathing in chemicals. Not only does it smell and feel nice, I do not get that burning sensation when applying it. —    … read full review »

Beyond BodiHeat Heat Pad

Beyond BodiHeat Heat Pad
a busy person, into trying new things, often having muscle pain

JUL

2008
Beyond BodiHeat Heat Pad is a disposable heating pad square with an adhesive backing and claims to provide 12 hours of pain relief, "sooths and comforts sore, aching muscles, and provides relief from back and joint pain." I recently decided to clean out closets, move furniture and get the upstairs organized, hanging pictures, storing, sorting and giving to charity (call it summer time spring cleaning). — That night after a soak in the tub I decided to make sure I didn't wake up the nex morning with sore muscles and joints or aching back pain. I took my Motrin and then applied my Beyond… read full review »

ThermaCare Back Wraps are the best.  I hurt my back and after a long day of sitting at my desk it ached.  I had tried compresses but they were to bulky.  I just put the pad on and my pain just went away.  This product is amazing.  It is just the right size to put on and… read full review »

Band-Aid Advanced Healing Gel Strips

My partner is a medical professional. As such, our hone first aid kit is ridiculously well stocked. A few days ago, when I got a nasty steam burn, I did what I was supposed to do: run cold water over the wound for ten minutes, make sure the burn was clean and free of bacteria, yadda yadda. I was left with a pretty nasty and painful burn, and I knew the thing to do was cover it, to keep air from irritating it. When I looked for regular, old bandages, I was frustrated by the fancy stuff in our first aid kit. Lots of gauze and triangular bandages and other stuff, but no run-of-the-mill Band… read full review »

''There's a snake on the trail!'' ''What kind?''  ''He's big and mean!''  Those are the words I heard on a recent hike. We had seen all the signs warning about snakes, but I didn't give it much thought until we actually encountered one. Although the snake we saw was a non-poisonous bull snake, it startled me, and got me thinking about what I would do if I were bitten by a venomous snake. — Although bites from venomous snakes are relatively rare, and death from snakebites is extremely rare, who wants to be one of the few unlucky ones to succumb to a snake bite?  With that… read full review »

Even though this is the generic brand of neosporin, it works just the same. I love this stuff. I put it on, with or without a band-aid, on my fingertips (where I bite my nails to the skin...OUCH) and it heals so fast. It even seems to take away the pain after only a few minutes.… read full review »

Pain sufferers, rejoice.  ThermaCare can soothe -- from minor aches to severe back spasms and pain.  Does the cold of winter feel like it gets in your bones and muscles?  Get close to a ThermaCare heat wrap for the back and you'll be toasty warm with much less pain. — A tip:  Did you know one ThermaCare can be saved and kept warm up to 24 hours?  — A heat wrap can get pretty hot by 2 hours.  If you need to remove it temporarily, wrap the entire wrap up onto itself.  Then, place inside a hand towel and roll the towel up tightly.  It will… read full review »

Band-Aid Clear Adhesive Bandages

Band-Aid Clear Adhesive Bandages
impressed with this product, Practical, value conscious

MAY

A necessity for nearly every office or home, is to have a ready supply of bandages available for those cuts or scrapes that are sure to come along eventually. It doesn't matter how careful you are, if you work in an office setting, you are going to get a paper cut every now and then. For me, this is something that happens more than I would like to admit, but I am glad that my work actually provides first aid for when it occurs. They have a nice first aid cabinet where there are a bunch of choices to go with, but I like going with the Band-Aid Clear Adhesive Bandages more often than anything… read full review »

Las Vegas... what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. I was in Las Vegas and had itchy patches of eczema on my arms that I definitely wanted to stay in Vegas. In fact, the eczema was flaring up and I was too busy working to want to have to deal with this particular distraction. There was a Walgreens store near the hotel, so I checked out the anti-itch creams that claimed to handle eczema and found they all contained hydrocortisone as the active ingredient. I bought Walgreens Maximum Strength 1% Hydrocortisone Cream for about $4.50. — — As I said, the active ingredient is… read full review »

Those limbs my husband was cutting down turned out to be posion ivy!  Who knew?  It's a good thing I had this product on hand.  Ever since my husband got chicken pox several years ago, I've kept calamine lotion handy.  This stuff is a lifesaver!  It soothes instantly, and keeps the itchiness at bay.  And it's cheap!  Been around forever too.  I remember my Mother putting it on me when I was a little girl with chicken pox too! — You can find this product EVERYWHERE.  It goes on pink, and stays pink.  That's the only con I can think… read full review »

Tired of paying money for pricey makeup bases like Smashbox?  This chafing gel has the exact same formula as many makeup bases do.  It contains dimethicone which is the main ingredient.  —  Just smooth a small amount onto your face and it creates a smooth silky base for your makeup.  My nose tends to peel a lot no matter how I take care of it.  When I use this it keeps the makeup from caking in the spots where my skin peels.  The best part is that it only costs around $7.  Some makeup bases cost close to $40. —… read full review »

3M Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape

3M Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape
value conscious

APR

2008
About a year ago, I had skin cancer and had to have surgery.  I had a large hole basically, on my leg that had to be protected and kept mostly dry until it healed. The hospital suggested that I use large gauze squares and secure it with tape.  My skin is very sensitive, and was especially so in this area and my doctor recommended that I try Nexcare gentle paper tape. Nexcare was very easy to use and held the gauze in place perfectly.  It did not roll up and stayed on securely in the shower.  There was also no irritation from the tape either. Hopefully I won't need to use… read full review »
