Fingerhut  —

I never in my life ordered anything from these people, yet 2 years ago when I went to buy my house I had a BIG BLACK MARK on my credit report from Fingerhut. You talk about being fit to be tied, I was well beyond that. They had reported me to the credit bureau to the tune of $285.....Why the heck would I ever order $285 worth of high priced junk?

    The Facts

I got their number off the credit report and gave them a call. The lady was nice enough at first as I started to explain my plight. Then she just kept telling me "You owe us money and you need to pay your bill." Now I am part German and Part Irish so you don't wanna get on my bad side, but she was getting real close. So I asked to speak with a manager and was put on hold, about 10 minutes later a guy gets on the phone.

I again explained I had never ordered anything from them and ask what we needed to do to fix this mess. He just kept repeating the same thing over and over again and yes my ears were beginning to smoke real bad by now.

I then asked him what proof he had I ever ordered anything and he said they had a copy of the order that was sent in. I asked him to get it and again I was placed on hold, this time only a few minutes. He gets back on the phone and says it was signed by Mrs. Me and for the first time since I got them on the phone I laughed. He got rather irritated and ask why I was laughing. Well I asked him the date of the order and he gave it too me and then I busted out again. I asked him if they always took orders just on a signature and no verification of the person ordering. He said well yeah we do.

Thats when I told him he had exactly 5 days to remove it from my credit report or I would sue them for all they were worth. You see the date it was ordered was 1 year after I divorced the _ _ _ _ _ (you fill in the blanks) I told him I would fax him a copy of the divorce decree if he liked. Well his tone changed real quick and he began to stammer a little bit.

Not only had they tried to stick me with it on her signature but they also put my S.S.# on her dang bill! I also asked the address of the order and I never lived there in my life and had they really bothered to check properly they would have seen that on my credit report.

    Bottom Line

Any company that is going to accept an unverified credit order and then tries to pin it on somebody else. Well I don't want anything to do with them. Unfortunately I still had to pay $85 about 2 weeks later, they had researched it and the $85 was for my old address and it was while we were married. She was a little smarter on that one and signed my name. Of course after proving when I divorced her by faxing them the decree I had no choice because the address and date matched my credit report. Still they have no business taking unverified orders where credit is concerned. They did however send a letter to the credit bureaus and fix the wrong that was done.

It was removed from all my reports and expunged from my history with no bad marks at all. They also went after her with all the proof they needed......Never mess with a Redneck, we get even! Last I heard about her was she had a date in court for fraud in this matter!

If I were broke and needed toilet paper I would never buy from them, I would rather use a pine cone! Beware of these people they mark things up, charge too much shipping and they will take an order from anybody that sends it too them with no verification at all. Sorry I saw another review on this and just had to inform everyone of my dealings with them.

I would rather use the pine cone...lol I will stay as far away from anything to do with those people. Thanks for reading and for the comments. ;-)

Instead of using a pine cone, you can use their catalog pages as toilet paper. :-) I thought they had gone out of business. Sounds like they're up to the same tricks.

Thanks Amy! It does make one wonder how they stay in business though. ;-) Ron

your one smart cookie Ron! Strange I just got a magazine from them. I ordered a cake cook book from them many years ago and all I got was photo copies of the pages of the book stapled together. I am shocked they are still in buisness.

Sounds sleazy as hell...i.e., typical American business practices in this day and age of underregulation and lax enforcement of what few, weak consumer protection laws remain. :-(

Boy that is ugly. Glad you could straighten it out! :>
