Finding Nemo  —

Intro
Before I even went to see Finding Nemo, I knew it was going to be great. After Monsters, Shrek, and movies of the like, I've noticed that animated movies have definitely improved since I was a kid!  I went to see Finding Nemo with high hopes, and it exceeded all my expectations. Since then, I got the DVD, and I have since watched it dozens of times.

Plot
The plot, in short, is an under water movie about Nemo who is the son of a solo fish father Marlan. Well what happens? Nemo gets kidnapped by a diver right near the start of the movie! Now extra cautious Marlan must explore the ocean to find his son, but he usually never does anything that scary, how can he manage?  And where did that diver take Nemo?

This is a more involved plot then most animated kids movies. That's just another thing that's been changing with the times. Adults and Kids alike will enjoy watching Marlan on the search for his son. And you'll also get to see the other side of the story as they show where Nemo was taken too!

Characters
The two main characters are Marlan and Nemo. Marlan is the father who is extra cautious and overly worried about his son Nemo. His voice is done by Albert Brooks (he also did the voice of the Tiger in Dr. Doolittle). His voice is great as it you can almost hear the worry in his tone. This is perfect since Marlan is a very worried fish.

Nemo is a young fish who just wants to explore. His father is so over protected that Nemo really hasn't seen much of the ocean. He wants to prove to his dad that he is not a baby. This voice is done by Alexander Gould. I don't really know much about this actor but he fit with Nemo great.

Then there is the one character that made this movie worth seeing over and over. Her name is Dory. Marlan meets Dory in the beginning, and she joins him in the search for his son. She is done by Ellen DeGeneres and the fish actually looks kind of like Ellen! She is very very funny.

There are many other funny characters in this film but it's not worth listing them all. You can see the movie and be surprised that way :)

Animation
The computer animations in this movie are very realistic. I've seen parts of the movie that look almost exactly like the under water shows you see on Discovery Channel. If you watch the DVD, you'll see the behind the scenes that shows the many many levels that go into this animation.  Besides that, these guys did their research. Most of the fish and scenery is actually what exists under water. It is funny b/c I had JUST seen an episode about the ocean on the Discovery Channel, then I went to the theater and I was so shocked that they had the exact same crazy fish I had just learned about!

Length
This is a perfect length movie for me, and that's because I like longer movies. When I was at the theater, there were a few times I thought it was going to end, but it didn't and I was glad because I wasn't ready for the end.

DVD Features
If you buy the DVD, it has a lot of cool features. There are lots of behind the scenes, and "how they did it" kind of stuff. They show you how some of the scenes where derived from a real ocean scene.  There are also cool fun features like an aquarium that you can display on your tv just for fun. It's really just a scene from the movie that repeats with bubble sounds, but I still thought it was cool.

Conclusion
If I haven't already convinced you to go out and rent this, then I don't know what else I could possibly say!  This movie is funny, cute and good for kids and adults. It follows in the footsteps of Monsters and Toy Story and other computer animated features. Even if you don't care for the plot, you got to watch it just for Dory.

Thanks and enjoy Finding Nemo :)

My baby likes the Nemo cardboard books I read to him. He brings them to me all the time. I think he likes the shark the best because everytime he sees it, he says "OH!" I just bought the DVD movie and I plan to watch it this weekend. Awesome review!
