Savings accounts? CDs? Money Market Accounts? Retirement Accounts? the mattress? buried in a can in the backyard?

Unfortunately in my bills... aka there is no saving in our house right now.  Beyond that, I'm pretty sure that the buried can may be the best option now days.

I have this coke bottle I've been filling up with silver coins since high school.. but it's the same coke bottle ppl make me break open whenever they want to play a card game and they need change :-D  Plus since I started using credit (for the points) I don't have as much change - so I'd say there's about 200$ there well hidden :)

I have most my money just in a regular bank account.  I have 1 small CD that just roles over every 18 months.  It's up again in May and I gotta make sure to make a meeting with them so I get good rates!  It hasn't earned me much BUT it's earned me more than my savings account interest so it was worth it.

I have a 401k where my job puts in some money each week and I put in 5% a paycheck.  I used to put in 20 but I cut it to 5 when I got a house.  Only trouble is it goes DOWN.  BOOO.  i'm just hoping that in 30 years it is higher!!!

I have always tried to diversify between cash, stocks, and some Savings Bonds. Luckily I had more in cash than stocks when the market collapsed. Nevertheless my retirement accounts have all been trashed and I have no idea what to do about it. The money I keep adding to the 401K every paycheck just keeps disappearing and the last 10 days have been especially bad  :(

A lot people where I work started down-sizing what they were contributing as well since we've only seen a down-turn.  I haven't checked my retirement account lately and I really don't wish to.  It's money my employer puts in and that's it.  Sad thing is we just switched to this type of account last January (a year ago) and then everything went sour.  ppl were not happy cause we had a regular IRA which was at least not losing money.

I started downsizing b/c I was planning a wedding, buying a house and getting stressed about money!  Now I won't go back up until I feel things are better.  I could turn it off completely but i have hope that my 5% will someday earn me some cash for retirement.

I don't check mine often but it's sad.  I am just glad I have a LONG TIME before I'll need it and I hope that things turn around!

Seems as if history repeats itself---leaving it there long term, you will get a return. If you leave it short term or take it out when the market fails, it will fail you. There truly is no way to get rich quick unless you win the lotto, or have some hidden talent that has not been discovered yet.

Still looking for my hidden talent lol!

Well, I have some unique qualities but I don't think those are real money earning qualities lol!

I can make a great LASAGNA though!
