Oh dear. I'm not at all rich. But we did sell our overpriced home in California last year, and we wondered what to do with the tidy profit. Before we got carried away, we had to figure out logistics: i.e., where to stash the dough.
One of my brothers, a former Wall Street portfolio...

Fidelity Investments portfolio reviews cost nothing and are computer generated. Though Fidelity representatives can waiver off of the computer generated recommendations,...

We have been with E-Trade, Charles Schwab, Muriel Sebert (sp) and all have taken us for a ride with fees for nothing. We trade outselves, we have money market accounts which should be paying moe than any bank can.
I got a Mystery Shop to contact Fidelity Investments regarding a Money Market account that is now my current premium checking account and making 3% interest. I was talked to very nicely, very knowledgeable people who do not put you down to questions. They have all the time you need of them. I gave them high marks, then learned my husband has his 203B funds from 20 years at work...

Fidelity has really great research tools. Beyond that, the standard services offer nothing that stacks up well against the top brokers. Active Trader Pro, a desktop application version of the service available to customers making 36 or more trades per year, offers an improved trading experience and charting application. Commissions and fees can be excessive for those that do not qualify for discounts. Margin rates are excessive except for those lucky few with $500,000+ loan balances. Fidelity is by no means a bad service but it falls just short of our recommended list....

BUT the biggest problem is reliability. At least 5 times since I opened this account 6 weeks ago, the system has gone down. The day before Goldman was to release, I waited for over 4 hours to find out if a C shortsale trade had executed. Today (October 19, 2009), their system went down before AAPL earnings and was not available until after they reported.
Another problem is executions. ...

Twice, I was told the sale was done, only to be told at the end of the day it did not go through. Never heard of such a thing, especially after having been give a confirmation number for the sale, and assured that it was completed.
If you wish to purchase a bond outside of their inventory, which is limited, go elsewhere.
Account closed. 7 days to get my money back.
I love Fidelity because you can consolidate all your retirement accounts together. It's easy and intuitive how to use the website. There is online customer support via instant messaging so you don't have to sit on a phone waiting to talk to somebody.
The research tools are great when trying to find stats on a mutual fund or stock. The site also has a feature called Full View. This allows you to register all sorts of accounts (other brokerage accounts, bank accounts, credit card companies, frequent flier / hotel accounts, email, etc.) so all account balances can be centralized. It can be...
