I love my ferret Spunky very much!  He is a de-scented, spayed male and I bought him about 1 1/2 years ago.  I did make sure I bought him a three tiered cage that was roomy, easy to clean and safe.  If you are going to get a ferret as a pet I suggest you get a cage with the bottom removable.  It...

Ferrets are Fun, But....

My daughter who is six years old was given a ferret this past summer. She was very excited to get him. He had been fixed and descented (so they said!!).

He took right to her and the rest of the family. He was very energetic when he was awake. Ferrets like to sleep about  eighteen...

I have owned ferrets for about 12 years now.  I think they are great pets if taken care of and trained well.  In 12 years I have had 4 different ferrets and they have all been great companions and great with children.  I never had any children living in my home, but when we had family over the ferrets were always a big curiosity for the all of the kids.  Mine never bit anyone or even acted mean.  They tolerated being picked up and constant attention from the children.

Before getting a ferret you should do your research on what it takes to care for one.  It's not difficult to learn, they just...

In regards to ferret foamy fries, they're awesome! Ferrets find these treats to be addictive and a real delight.

They are also healthy for ferrets. They contain no sugar which is bad for ferrets. They are a great treat to give you ferrets on occasion.

They will love you for them.

We had a ferret for 10 years, which is old for a ferret.  I would recommend this animal to folks who have time to spend with it.  They are mostly a one person pet and will follow you around like a dog.  They should be given ferret food.  Ours however liked cat food.  It is harder on their system and not recommended by vets.  When we switched to ferret food, Xenia would not eat, therefore, the vet said to go back to the cat food.  Xenia developed a tumor (which is normal) and had surgery to have it removed.  The cost was $700.  To us it was worth it.  She lived another year and passed... read full review »

The word "ferret" means "little theif" in latin. This is an omen. Being a proud owner of a ferret, a 4 year old girl named Taco, I have been shown and discovered every possible hidey hole in my home and have found everything from holiday candy and polly pocket clothes to flip flops and cat toys tucked into and under just about anything that you can hide something in. Ferrets are a cute loveable unquie pet that need special care and attention. i love my ferret and have been blessed with my good natured Taco, but a ferret is not a pet that everyone can handle and care for. They do take...

Ferrets are terrific pets but they do require an owner to make a commitment of finances and time.  Anyone considering the purchase of a ferret should know that they do have a musky scent even when they are descented.  Prospective owners should also research the breeder of the ferret prior to purchase as some ferret breeders are not ethical.  Marshall Farms ferrets all have a small tattoo in their ears and they are bred for temperment, health and physical traits such as coat color.  All of the ferrets I have purchased have been Marshall Farms ferrets and they have all been sweethearts but...

My husband and I have now brought 5 ferrets into our home. Ferrets are exciting creatures who are always looking for something new and fun to get into.  However, before bringing one home please educate yourself on their behavior, health, and care.  They are time consuming (recommeded 2-4 hours / day for playtime).  I would not recommend ferrets for parents with children or if you are busy working most of the time.  Ferrets are very loving and interesting pets.
If you consider bringing one (or two*) into your home, please consider adopting from a local resuce shelter.  The kits (ferret babies)...

Don't get me wrong--ferrets are my all-time favorite animals. I'm happily devoting my life to them. They're gregarious, playful, loving, and smart. Not to mention soulful, soft, and loving.

But as a rescuer and shelter operator, I wish far fewer people would get ferrets. That way fewer ferrets would be homeless. I wouldn't recommend them for people who cannot afford huge vet bills, people with small children, or people who aren't willing to completely turn their lives upside down. They're also not for anyone who may be going off to college, transferring to California, or who would consider getting...

I have 3 ferrets. They each have very different personalities. Izzy is my mellow boy and our first. Bella we got as a friend for Izzy.  She is spunky and our boldest. Then my daughter talked me into a 3rd. His name is Ozzy and he is deaf. He is very hard to find when it is time to go back in the cage. They bring a smile to your face every time you see them. They are a part of our family as much as our 3 dogs. They also get along with our 2 cats. They do not however get along with our Bunny. Ferrets will kill rodents like rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, mice etc... they will also kill birds. And although... read full review »

The ferret is the perfect pet and here's why:
1) They're small.
2) They're quiet.
3) They're easy to train.
4) They're low maintenance.
5) They're fun to watch.
6) They're able to entertain themselves.
7) They have small poop.
8) They sleep A LOT.

We have 2 ferrets. They're both housebroken, one more so than the other, but that's okay (see reason 7 above.) They don't require expensive toys. They're more than happy to play with any empty (or full) grocery bag, tissue box, sock, rug, etc. They make virtually no noise, at least nothing that can be heard through apartment walls or doors.

Here's a list of why...

I have a ferret named CHI CHI and she is a wonderful pet. She is playful and loveable. She is a riot to watch at night when we get her out of her cage to play. She runs around and hops and runs through her tubes. She is good with kids she doesn't bite. She doesn't scratch. I love having her in the family. My dog likes to play with her but she doesn't care for the dog to much. She loves attention. She likes to run through her tubes. And she really like teasing the dog when she is in the tubes. She will run back and forth to drive the dog nuts. Ferrets sleep alot so you need to make sure they have...

ferrets are a high maintenance pet that is the third most popular pet in the world.  the key to understanding ferrets is EDUCATION.  anyone interested in ferrets should buy a book and read it before adopting a ferret from a shelter or purchasing one from a pet store.  i would also see if there is a ferret shelter close by and volunteer there.  i recommend adopting from a shelter because the shelter knows each ferrets personality:  biter, nippy, blind, deaf, likes kids, gets along with other animals etc.  there are genetic problems with different colorings of ferrets, and a shelter would be... read full review »

Ferrets make a great pet!  I have two ferrets and they are so much fun to watch.  They play together , sleep together, and keep each other company.  They have a 4+ foot cage where they sleep and eat and they also have an inside play yard where they can run around in with lots of toys and sleeping bags plus food and water.  I have a kitten who jumps in to their play area and plays with them.  When the ferrets have enough, they chase him out.  It is quite comical to watch.  I had two other ferrets in the past, but only one at a time.  It's more fun with more than one!  They can get expensive,...
