I purchased Fellowes Screen Cleaner Wipes at CompUSA for $9.99.  I have two young boys who are constantly touching the screen of my computer monitor so I desperately needed something to clean it.

The Screen Cleaning Wipes

This pop-up dispenser tub contains 100 premoistened anti-static screen cleaning wipes which are alcohol-free. These wipes measure 5" X 5 1/2" and are very thin. The manufacturer claims that the wipes safely clean dirt, dust, grease, and fingerprints from laptops, PDA's, Monitors, and TV's. There is a warning on the container which states that this product is not recommended for use on mesh screens. The container does not list the ingredients but does say that these wipes are dermatologically safe.

My Experience

Upon returning home from CompUSA, I eagerly removed the lid and the foil seal, fed the corner of the center wipe through the hole in the lid as directed and replaced the lid. I popped open the top and pulled a wipe from the tub. Only one wipe came up and out which I was pleased about. I noticed immediately that, even though the container stated that these wipes were alcohol-free, there was a strong odor which emulated that of alcohol. I also noticed that the wipe didn't appear to be as moist as I expected it to be.

I then began using the wipe to clean my computer monitor and I would say that it did a fair job. There were streaks left behind and I did have to use a second wipe to finish the job. I made sure the cap was snapped closed and I set the tub aside for the next time I needed to clean the monitor.

About four days later, the need arose for me to use the wipes for the monitor again and, this time, when I removed a wipe from the tub, the wipe felt even less moist then the first time. I cleaned the monitor but had to use three or four wipes to obtain the level of cleanliness that I wanted.

After about the third week of owning these wipes, they were virtually dry and useless. The odor remains but the moistness is completely gone. I followed the directions to a T on how to open and close the cap and would have expected to have gotten longer use out of this tub of 100. I would say I have probably around three quarters of the tub of wipes left that are now useless to me.

Conclusion

The Fellowes Screen Cleaner Wipes are quite a disappointment and a waste of money. I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy ... well ... maybe my WORST one, but no one else. ;) I am giving these wipes a 1 star rating based on the uselessness of the product.
