Well, at least I'm not allergic to it...
3 star rating

very into fragrance, an allergy sufferer, very sensitive to odors, into trying new things, not very domestic, severely allergic to dust
Pros

    nice scent, lingering scent, may help your allergies, not too expensive

Cons
    sprays on wet, doesn't help my allergies, scent is very subtle, a bit sticky - use sparingly

Quick View: I am very allergic to dust, dust mites, mold, and a host of other things indoor and out. My indoor allergies are much worse and I am most allergic to dust which is everywhere! I should be living in a bubble but I just plod along dealing with the symptoms. I saw Febreze Fabric Refresher, Allergen Reducer and decided it couldn't hurt to give it a try. It smells nice but I note no reduction in my allergy symptoms.

About Febreze Fabric Refresher, Allergen Reducer

This product comes in a 27.04 fl oz plastic squirt bottle. The claims are that the this product:
* Reduces up to 75% of Airborne Allergens from Fabrics
* Is Dermatologist Recommended
* Is Lightly Scented
* Contains No Phosphates

The scent is typical air freshener scent, like clean linen. It's fresh but pretty subtle compared to other Febreze sprays. I was excited when I got my bottle because I had been having allergy symptoms and wanted relief without taking medication. I sprayed my couch and surrounding areas were I often am. I noted that this stuff sprays on WET. It isn't a light mist, it's a heavy one that definitely makes everything damp. Ew.

The scent was nice and it definitely freshed up the air and the areas that I sprayed. With two cats and a dog, that's a good thing. I used the spray everyday on bedding, furniture, dusty areas, even the air in the living room. Did I notice any allergy reducing? Nah. I still was sniffling and tearing up when I came into contact with dusty areas. The upside is that I also tend to sneeze and have reactions to spray air fresheners. I have used some that made me sneeze over and over and literally had me running out of the room. I did not have any reaction to Febreze Fabric Refresher, Allergen Reducer. But, as far as it reducing allergens and giving me relief from my many allergies, I just didn't feel as though it worked.

I know people who swear that this spay helps their symptoms. I don't know if it is a placebo effect or they just have allergies that respond better to this spray than I do. I like the scent but could do without the dampness. I think I'll just go back to my usual  Febreze spray which has a much nicer scent and doesn't spray on wet. I don't have any sort of reaction to that one either.

I paid $6.59 for a bottle of this spray and I don't really regret it but I won't buy it again. I'll stick with lighter mists that freshen the air and fabrics without dampness.

My Viewpoint

I think Febreze Fabric Refresher, Allergen Reducer may work for some people with certain allergies. The ingredients don't look spectacular though : Water, Alcohol, Odor Eliminator (dervived from corn), Polymer (Organic), Fragrance.
I don't see much that reduces allergens in there unless alcohol does.

I know others will disagree when I say that it doesn't reduce my symptoms but it doesn't! I think it's worth trying though and I hope it works for you! If nothing else, it smells fresh and subtle and the scent lasts quite awhile on many fabrics. 3 stars.

With animals in the house, you may have to change the charcoal filters more often because of the dander, etc. If there's smoke in the house, it will need to be changed more often also. We bought ours at Lowe's near the end of the summer and got a great deal on them. I think Sam's Club sometimes runs pretty decent prices, if you have either of those stores near where you live. It also helps to wash bed linens in hot water (dust mites aren't killed unless the water is above about 140 degrees--I think, going on memory here) every week or two. You may also want to consider encasings for your mattress--I'm planning to write a review on mine soon. If you have carpet, you may want to consider hardwood or tile or something else other than carpet, especially in the bedroom. I feel for you in suffering with allergies

I'll check out your review. I need something especially in winter when I am cooped up in the house more.

I have a problem with people wearing rabbit fur too but it isn't an allergy. I just don't like fur coats! (Poor bunnies...) I will try that Febreze. It can't hurt. I would LOVE to find a spray that really helps my symptoms. I have to wear goggles and a mask to clean the house if I am doing anything more than very mundane things. Not a good look and not comfy!

Really wierd....I have three dogs and they love to snuggle and sleep with you or sit on your lap etc, and they don't bother me in the least, but I know if there is a cat in residence without ever seeing or touching it...instant eye water, snuffy, sneezing, etc...I also have a problem if I am stuck sitting next to somebody wearing rabbit fur in church or at the movie theater. The only part that I don't like about the anti-microbial Febreeze is that you cannot buy the refill sizes for the pump-they just don't offer it...You always have to pay the full price (but it isn't really any more expensive than Lysol, so I should just stop complaining)

We've been real happy with ours made by Hunter--did a review on it (of course!). They have a lot of different ones out there. I like the feature where it reminds us to change the filter.

I never heard of the anti-microbial. I may try it. This may work for you. I'm just SO allergic that I guess it can't deal with me. That's OK, no one or nothing else can either. lol. Just try spraying it on your cat. It s/he is like mine, you'll be fighting a losing battle. Ha!

I had an air purifier or two and never could find one that worked well and seemed to clean the air. I will have to do some research and see what's out there. I need something, that's for sure!

I like the Febreeze anti-microbial better as a replacement for Lysol and other pungent smelling sanitizers, but I could give this one a try....Wonder if I sprayed it on a cat, if I could tolerate the cat in the same room with me? LOL

I feel for you in having mold and dust mite allergies--I do too. You may want to consider an air purifier if you don't already have one--I have a Hunter one that I reviewed. It really helped me and the girls. Thanks for the info in the review!
