After being a low-risk customer of Farmers for over a decade with homeowners and auto insurance and NEVER filing a claim, my vehicle was struck in a parking lot last week. I obtained the other driver's insurance info (USAA), obtained an estimate to repair the damages, and called my local Farmers office to ask what to do. They provided me incorrect information regarding my deductible and said I should file a claim with Farmers Helpoint. So, I called Helpoint, and proceeded to be told that the deductible would actually be much higher and not fall into uninsured motorist or comprehensive, despite being told this by my agent. Farmers then 3rd party called my agent, interrogated me, were rude, demanded I provide them with a tape recorded statement agreeing they would not extend the lower deductible I was told, and treated me like a criminal. They refused to help or extend the lower deductible I was told.
Furthermore, Farmers then proceeded to assign 2 separate adjustors to my claim just to fight NOT having to pay a dime, although I was not at fault. It was obvious that Farmers was much more concerned with their interests than making me whole or trying to help me. They would rather pay $1500++ in personnel costs to fight you than help you. Then they refused to drop the claim when I requested. All in all, I am horrified and disgusted with Farmers and searching for a new insurance company ASAP. If this is how they treat a low-risk, loyal customer, I cannot imagine how they would treat someone with a catastrophic claim. The damage estimate by the way was under $500.
The only silver lining is the other person's insurance company (USAA) has been amazing. They apologized, accepted full liability, called me back within 24 hours and wanted to know what they could do to help me. My car goes to the shop Monday and USAA is providing me with a rental car an paying full damages. Farmers could use a good lesson on how to treat people by USAA. The difference in customer service is bigger than the great divide. I have even tolerated a year of incremental increases in my premiums. LEAVE FARMERS WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
