It was a total nightmare dealing with Farmers Insurance after a simple automobile accident, where we were rear-ended. Farmers ignored my claim completely, and I had to get the Department of Insurance involved in order to resolve this.
After my car was eventually repaired, I decided I would never deal with Farmers again, and I cancelled my Farmers policies, both automobile and homeownenrs, and I purchased insurance through a different company. I sent a letter to the Farmers agent advising her that I purchased insurance through a different company and told them to cancel my policies.
About 4 weeks later, I received a letter from a Collection Agency, hired by Farmers, demanding $1,800 for "car insurance premium." I notified the Collection Agency that this was surely a mistake, I had cancelled all insurance with Farmers, and I have a different insurance company. I wrote to Farmers, I called Farmers, I called my agent, but all my correspondence and all of my phone calls were ignored. I was told by the Collection Agency that either I pay Farmers this $1,800 or they would "ruin" my credit rating. Again, I had to go to the Department of Insurance to resolve this. The Dept. of Insurance handled this matter with Farmers and finally, Farmers left me alone.
Farmers Insurance knew that I did not owe them any money, but they attempted to 'strong arm' and threaten to ruin my credit if I didn't pay them!! It was a nightmare. I just am grateful I don't have to deal with Farmers anymore!!
I am 60 years old, and this is by far, the absolutely WORSE insurance company I ever dealt with. The aggravation and stress they put me through, plus having to get the Dept. of Insurance involved on 2 occasions, was terrible. I would NEVER recommend Farmers Insurance to anyone!! They are beyond horrible!!!
