Social networking sites are all the rage in the younger generation, and sometimes we "elders" feel left out. So I decided to find out what all of the excitement was about concerning Facebook; it started out as a mild curiosity but it has now turned into a near-obsession, and dare I say fun.
Facebook started out as a place where college students could keep track of each other and now it has turned into an international social networking space where not only college students can meet and greet, but also old high school buddies, and business associates as well.
Facebook is an involved website. Anyone can set up an account and populating said account is as simple or as involved as one may want it to be. For instance, you can list your favorites: music, TV Shows, movies, books, and quotations. And of course the assorted personal information can also be entered, like activities, interests, education, and work history.
Friends can also be found on Facebook. And I have found quite a few; three from my high school, quite a few from my various alums, and still more from the various websites I write reviews for. One can also join Facebook sponsored groups sporting all sorts of worthy and not-so-worthy causes.
My Viewpoint
I like Facebook, and I am liking it more and more every day; in fact the site is becoming a bit of an obsession. This is not only because you yourself go, and impart all sorts of information about yourself, but because the way the site is structure you feel as though you are actually making a connection with other members.
Add to that the ability release Twitter-like updates about yourself from either the website or mobile device, add personal photos, send personal messages to other members, write on other members (public) walls, and with Facebook you have a receipt for a fun, engaging website that all can share and find something to like, if not love.
