I finally gave in and joined Facebook, yes, I can be found on there.  The funny thing is I am on the Internet all the time - usually working or just staying in touch with people so thought, "Hey maybe Facebook can help me do both at the same time?" Did it?

Everyone pretty much knows that Facebook is an online networking and social site where people can meet and greet, make new friends, stay in touch with old, promote your business or even yourself.  And it does do all those things. You can even make donations to your favorite charties or exchange

What do I like about Facebook?

  • easy to keep in touch with people
  • chat function allows me to chat real time with my friends
  • "locks" for friends only, network only ect
  • play games with friends
  • view photos
What don't I like about Facebook?
  • concerns about security
  • safety - especially of children
  • too much information TMI- do I really want to share all that I can - or know all that I can know?
  • prospective employers, blackmail, ex's, stalkers
  • too many applications
  • no way to personalize your "home page"
My Viewpoint:  I am enjoying my time on Facebook.  It has helped me find and catch up with my best friend from high school - but we really didn't have much to talk about after that so it almost seems useless to have these people on your friends lists that you aren't really contacting.  I am having fun getting to know more about many of my friends from Viewpoints, and other sites that I frequently visit.  I admit though, Facebook has not really done anything to convince me of the effectiveness of their security measures so I tend not to particpate in many of the invites that I receive or post photos.  I use Facebook mostly to do something with a friend or two that I wouldn't get to do, like chat in real time or play a game (of course we could find other sites to do that.  I also use Facebook to help me promote my writing and hopefully find a friend or two that will enjoy the articles I write.  Not all are posted, because I find the process too hard to keep up with, so if it's not an auto post function, it doesn't get released on there.

Facebook doesn't make my face light up with joy every time I visit, but it does bring a bright spot to the day when I visit here and there for a chat or a wall to wall exchange with friends.  I do keep my security features high on all my software and my web browser because of using Facebook.  I don't plan on leaving, it is entertaining, but it's not the addiction that I was afraid it would be.

My dad has sucker high security settings on his computer and you should have seen it go off with every page change when we were looking on the site so he could grab some of my pics. Lots of spy-ware. Good points, but I still like it. :)
