Evergreen Thermometer

Scanning is sometimes difficult especially with small children.

Fast, but maybe reads low

The reading appears quite quickly, but sometimes, I think it's lower than what the temperature really is. I use this device quite often at work, and once, the doctor asked me to repeat a temperature rectally, and there was a difference of several degrees. My advice is to repeat any reading you doubt, such as if the person feels warmer to the touch, and maybe test it with a different kind of thermometer.

Good thermometer, but needs to glide better

I really love my exergen temporal scanner infrared thermometer! I really trust that the temperature readings that I get with it are accurate. I have no doubt when I use it when I think my little ones are sick that it will give me a good reading of their health. I'm glad there is such a great thermometer out there for little ones since it is so important to be able to get a quick temperature reading on them. Even though they say that the rectal temperature is the way to go for babies, I still love my exergen thermometer. I think that the pricepoint is very reasonable and would pay a lot more for such a great product that can help me when my little ones don't feel good. The only thing that I wish was better is the glide along their forehead. Maybe it doesn't need to glide any further than it does when I use it, but I feel like it sticks to their foreheads instead of gliding across it. Othewise, I love it!

Easy to use, consistent results

I bought a temporal thermometer to get better reads on my child when he gets a ear infection. The ear thermometer doesnt give the correct the reading, specifically in the ear with the infection, so I use the temporal one. This one is VERY east to use, as you can pretty much swipe any top of the forehead and get a consistent result, unlike the Vicks thermometer I purchased when I lost this one. ALSO, you can swipe the back of the ear and get the reading from the artery back there. The only con is the pricing. It IS expensive (compared to the cost of "regular thermometers", however the cost of it is outweighed by the usefulness of it. Make sure that it is room temp when you use it as when it is placed on a colder surface, it skews your temp results...

Takes practice but it's worth it once you master it.

I purchased this thermometer about a year and a half ago and only feel that I've mastered it's use in the past 6 months. Granted, I wasn't using it every day, and it's not hard to use at all, but it took me a while to feel confident in the temp enough not to check it again with another method every time. Now that I can take my childrens temperatures efficiently, I am glad I bought this item and definitely feel like I'm getting my monies worth. I would however caution that this tool is IMPOSSIBLE to use on a child that doesn't want to hold still. My daughter is 11 months old and I can check her temp just fine, my son at that age...not so much. I would NOT recommend this for newborns or younger babies. I work in healthcare and strongly believe that the accuracy of a rectal temp in little babies should NOT be traded for convenience. All in all, this thermometer is worth the money for us because my 3 year old son hates (I mean freak out tantrum hates) having his temperature checked under his arm or in his mouth and I am not going to subject him to a rectal temp. * important thing to remember: As per the instruction, you have to let the thermometer "acclimate" to whatever room you are going to use it in or you won't get an accurate reading. Example: My son has had a fever all day and we have been using the thermometer in the kitchen where it is usually kept. When he goes to bed, I will have to take the thermometer up to his room and leave it in there in case I need to check his temp during the night. It's not really a problem I guess unless you have two people with fevers at the same time.

Easy to use - wonderful technology

Gone are the days of trying to read the old mercury thermometers.  This temporat thermometer is a must have for anyone with young children.  We used to use the ear thermometer but I found that the ear piece didn't always fit to great in a little kids ear canal.  That is why I purchased this thermometer as soon as I saw my pediatrician's office using a temporal thermometer.  This thermometer is amazing.  All I have to do to get an accurate reading of my child's fever is to scan their forehead.  This ease of use is especially important if you have a little baby or toddler that will not hold still enough for an acurate reading on older type thermometers.  When I use this thermometer I usually scan a couple of times and I find the the second reading is very close or equal to the original reading.  My only complaint with this particular thermometer is that it is not backlit very well.  Therefore it is difficult to take a temperature in a dark room at night.  Other than that I am very please with the ease of use of this thermometer.

Exergen Temporal Thermometer is a Great Buy!

4

The Exergen Temporal Thermometer is really a great buy. It is so easy so use, and I like how it is a non-invasive way to take a temperature. I have a 2-year old son and a 5-year old daughter, and neither one minds getting their temperature taken. I have only found one downside to the thermometer. It sometimes gives varying results. This isn't a huge deal, though, as I usually take the temperature a couple times and use an average. Other than that, I really like using the thermometer. It definitely beats trying to get my son to keep the thermometer under his tongue with his mouth closed when he is stuffed up from a cold! Also, I really like not having to buy plastic covers for the oral thermometer I used to use.

Thank goodness for the temperol thermometer!

I was always envious of the nurses at the pediatrician's office for being able to take my kids' temperatures with just a flick of the wrist. We had invested in "regular" thermometers--you know what I mean---as well as the patch kinds, the ear kind, and the disposables. It was so frustrating to always try to figure out how accurate it was. I didn't know that these thermometers were available until seeing it in a drugstore ad with a rebate. I purchased it on a whim and sent in the rebate (so I got it for much less!) and it was the best investment ever. First of all, it's very easy to use. So simple especially when your child is asleep. It's painless and non-invasive. The battery seems to last forever, we've had ours for a long time and I don't remember ever needing to change the battery (although I'm probably jinxing myself for saying it.) It's also very accurate. This is a great product and makes a perfect baby shower gift. The new mom will thank you after her little one's first fever!

Simple and Accurate!

Received this as a baby shower gift, and found it to be very convenient and accurate. All it requires is a hold of the button and a scan across the forehead, so we all took turns swiping it across our foreheads. 8) It doesn't require much of a scan either. However, the button placement and the shape of the thermometer puts the hand at an odd angle that prevented me from getting a smooth full scan of the forehead. As for the readings, we had a nurse do a home visit and compared readings from her thermometer and the Exergen. Both were within 0.3degs. Her under-the-tongue took a good 10 seconds where this took about 2 secs. I'm not sure why the unit has to be so large though. Seems like it could be a lot smaller. Also the button placement could use some work. Maybe to a press-scan-press method? The holding-down-while-scan seemed a bit uncomfortable for me. Would recommend this thermometer. It's VERY convenient, not obtrusive at all to the baby, and gets accurate readings.

Love this thermometer!

A few years ago when my daughter was really sick, I saw this thermometer at the store. I thought that this would be a great way to take her temperature because she was still little and didn't know how to hold a thermometer in her mouth the right way. The Exergen Temporal Scanner Infrared Thermometer is one of the best thermometers out there! I love this thermometer because you can take your child's tempature without disturbing them when they are sleeping. You just run the thermometer over your child's forehead and it takes an accurate temperature without waking them up! It is more convient than the regular oral thermometers and I believe it is more accurate as well! It is more expensive than regular thermometers out there, but I think it is worth the price. I would recommend this thermometer to anyone out there that has a child!
