Evenflo Triumph 5 —
The Evenflo Triumph 5 car seat is definitely a good buy. My son is now three and still using the seat. He grew out of the infant carrier at about 6 months so we had to shop for a new car seat. I checked consumer reports and this particular car seat had gotten a good review so I went to the store to look at this seat and a couple of others. The thing that totally won my over is the fact that you can tighten the 5 point harness by turning a wheel on the side. My son still had to face backwards in the car for 6 months and to be able to tighten the straps like that was fantastic. I didn't want to try pulling the tightening strap that most seats have because I would have been trying to pull it straight into the back of the seat -- this is much more convenient. We only paid around $100 for this car seat and have used it now for 2 and a half years. We're getting something new for my 3 year old but that's only because my other son is starting to outgrow the carrrier and needs it. I'm amazed that it's still in such good condition for being a couple of years old. One of the only downfalls is that it's kind of wide if you are trying to fit another car seat and a person in the back. It latches in really easy -- we have the LATCH system in our car so it comes in and out quite easily. It doesn't have a cup holder like some of the newer ones have which would be nice -- I never know if the kids can actually reach those or not though. The straps are pretty easy to adjust if your child gets bigger and you need to move them up. It does have 3 reclining positons as well -- very nice if you have to use it for a younger child turned backwards. I did comment that the car seat is bulky but that's just the width as I mentioned earlier -- the seat itself is not heavy -- not any heavier than other car seats anyway.
