Euthanasia of a Beloved Pet —

I have had many, many pets over my 30 years of life. Whether the life span of the pet is long or short, deciding to have to euthanize a pet is always one of the hardest decisions to make. I strongly believe there are numerous animal hospitals that put the pet as #1 priority. I have worked at one, and gone to one other. I feel as though a vet needs to tell an owner exactly what is going to happen, and to make sure the owners can be in the room. I cannot believe some places will not allow that! Some vet offices also use a calming drug before they start the euthaniasia, which makes it alot more comfortable for the animals. When I look for Vets, I always ask numerous questions before I make an appointment, even just for vaccines. I always ask about the euthanasia policies. Cost, Cremation, Where they cremate. Some places even have a pet burial ground. Many people are against euthanasia, says it is cruelty to animals, but is it not more cruel to make an animal suffer in pain and discomfort just so you can have more time with him/her?

I have learned so much since we had to put our cat to sleep a year ago. We've recently adopted another cat, and I feel like I have a better sense of what to look for in a vet. This is only the second pet I've had in my life, and I like that our new vet doesn't assume I already know everything. She listened well and gave excellent information.
