I disagree with the other reviews. I love this vacuum! It's not perfect, no vacuum is. It clogs, you have to keep up with cleaning the filter and it is a bit heavy. It works very well, espicially for being less than $100! I got this at WalMart for about $70, and I was so pleased! The duster was such... review »

We bought this vacuum about 3 months ago. We figured the brand name meant it was a good buy for $80. Were we ever wrong! It worked great the 1st time, but that was it. There is absolutely no suction, dirt and larger pieces fly out the back. When upright to use the attachments, dirt comes out the bottom... review »

I wish I had read these reviews before I bought this. ( which is what I am doing now- trying to pick a replacement)  I have owned this less than a year and I HATE it!!  It throws the dirt around instead of picking it up.  It takes FOREVER to clean an area rug.  It does not work on hardwoods.  It makes more of a mess then anything.  After I Vac I need to sweep my hardwoods to pick up all the stuff it threw around.  The hose it set up weird where it won't stretch as far as a normal Vac would and the only thing I liked about it was the cleaning tool which broke after about 6 months.  I would... review »

Actually, I would like to rate it with no stars but am unable to.  I received this vacuum cleaner for my Birthday last December. It is probably the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever used. It's very heavy, has low suction, is always clogged, throws more dirt around than it picks up & the duster wand is worthless. I have 3 cats and a dog and yes, there is a lot of pet hair, but.....I have never had the problems with other vacuum cleaners that I am experiencing with this one. I am throwing it out with the garbage. The manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves for producing and selling such... review »

The Eureka Altima Vacuum is very light weight so I can carry it up and down the stairs. Speaking of stairs, the power paw does a wonderful job cleaning them. Its fast and easy. It's also good to vacuum dust off and out of the furniture and if you have drapes it's very useful to clean those as well.

We have both tile and carpet, this vacuum does a fairly good job on the tile and really good on the carpet. If you have cats that shed, it's very good for that.

The attachments are handy and easy to use. All compact on the unit so as not to be lost.

The straight edge attachment does a great job of...

I bought the Eureka Bagless Altima after our old Bissel bit the dust. I knew I needed something with a HEPA filter and preferred a bagless model. When I went to Wal-Mart, the selection was not the best, but I thought this vacuum looked like a good deal. I saw it had the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, so I figured it was good enough.
It was very easy to assemble. Once I plugged it in and got started vacuuming, I was impressed by the amount of suction it had. The dust cup filled up very quickly with pet hair and other debris my former vacuum had been unable to capture. When I turned my attention...

My wife got the Eureka Altima 2991 as a Christmas gift from out oldest son. At first it seemed great with all the cool attachments and gadgets and the whirlwind compartment. But after a few uses it became clogged. The hose fills full of dirt and debris and must be cleaned out constantly. Also the yellow funnel looking thing up inside of the dirt chamber has to be romoved and cleaned constantly. It has gone through several belts already. Now it has become so loud and noisey that we can hardly stand to use it. It is louder than most power tools. All of the vacuum cleaners we have owned previously... review »

Recently my vacuum that I loved and had used for 10 plus years finally died.  With two young children and a tight budget, I headed to the store to find a cheap replacement until I could save for a more expensive model.  I was able to pick up the Eureka Altima for around 40.00 and really liked it for awhile.  The suction seems to work really great, and the bagless container is relatively easy to empty.  Unfortunately, it is very dusty where I live, so even though I vacuum 2 to 3 times per week, the dust collects.  The filters on this vacuum must be taken out and washed when they get full, which...

I purchased the Eureka Altima Bag-less vacuume with the self cleaning duster and hepa filteration. I paid around $100.00 for the item. I have had it for almost 1 yr. and have went threw 4 belts. I have one short haired dog and 3 kids to pick up after, and this product has cased nothing but grief. It clogs up every other use and I have found my self having to un screw the roller Gard and ajust the belt allot. There is no such thing as quickly vacume in my house. The self dust attachment broke 2months after I purched it. and the headlight shorted out soon after. Yes I did replace the bulbs. The...

So long as I'm vacuuming carpet this unit worked just fine for me. Good suction, does a better job of picking up dirt than a pricey Sears canister vacuum I borrowed.

However, this thing is worthless on tile and hardwood. It literally spreads the dirt around. The problem is that there is no way to turn off the brush.

The extention wand (for the detachable hose) falls off it's carrier every 2 minutes or so. Very annoying, but you can just leave it off.

As another reviewer said, the washable foam filter does seem to get clogged pretty quick. The dirt canister fills up quickly too since it can't naturally...

I will never buy another Eureka again, due to my experience with the Altima.  It worked good for awhile, but soon it started not wanting to pick up all the dirt.  I'd be vacuuming, and my feet/ankles would get pelted with dirt.  It was flying from the bottom of the vacuum.  The telescopic duster bends easily & has even come apart a few times.  (The duster part falls off the stick.)  Then, recently, it started smoking and smelled like burnt rubber.  I thought the belt might need replaced, so I went out and bought a new belt.  Replaced the belt, and tried to vacuum.  Again, the smell of...

I can't remember ever cussing at a vacuum cleaner before.  The wife bought this POS at Wal-Mart and thought is was a good deal.  NOT!

Very Poor Design:

  • Foam filter needs cleaned before every use.
  • Does not pick-up very well, scatters dirt and debris.
  • Hose is too short, has a retaining loop near the bottom the hose will not come out of.
  • Self Cleaning Duster housing not well constructed, comes apart and difficult to seal properly.
  • Power cord storage bracket will break, and did.  Very tiny piece of plastic to retain upper movable bracket broke.

I was going to post a video of me beating the crap out of...

I really wanted this vaccum.  I even researched it. But the Eureka Altima stinks.  The telescopice dust brush was so hard to get out of the holder it broke.  The hose is so tight you can't extend it very far and you have to actually fight to pull it far  enough away from the vaccum to use it properly.  When I am just vaccuming the dirt flies our from under ,doesn't even go into the vaccum, the dirt hits me in the feet.   I would not reccomend this vaccum to anyone.  I can't wait to buy a new one.
