When my old mascara ran out recently, I really didn't feel like going out to buy a new one.  So, I asked a friend if she had any extra, which she did.  She gave an Estee Lauder Lash XL Maximum Length Mascara that she had a sample of from those free gifts with your purchase. Let me just state for the record that I have no idea how old this thing is, so you might have a different experience. When I first started using the mascara, it was great.  It's dark, and it easily lifts and lengthens your eyelashes.  I'd been applying it for a while when I decided to breath through my nose. I dropped the mascara brush, doubled over, and started gagging. This thing smelled *horrible.*I don't know if it's just the mascara, or because it went bad and there was some rancid animal fat in it.  All I know is that every time I use it, I hold my breath.  And even for a little while after I stop using it, the odor is still there. (I know that there is the whole "when in doubt, throw it out" philosophy, but the label only says that if your eyes are irritated you should discontinue use.  My eyes are not irritated. Just my nose.) Aside from that, this is an okay mascara.  At times, there are a few clumps, but if you have a dry mascara brush that you aren't using, you can just whisk them away. It does last all day, and your lashes won't sag down to where they were before you applied the mascara. Also, when applying this, for some reason, it gets *all over* my eyelids. Near the eye lash line, the brow line, everywhere.  I don't know if it's just the way that I, personally, am applying the mascara, or what. Anyway, this mascara isn't my favorite.  If you had to chose, you're better off getting something else. Even though your lashes do stay up, it isn't the perfect mascara, and I'm sure you can find something better out there.

I started using Estee Lauder products when I was 30 years old and I am now 50 and still using. I started using the perfume line but soon learned Estee Lauder had many more products. I use just about everything they offer.  I get so many compliments on my perfume and the mascara is such a pleasure to use. It is the first mascara I have used that does not clump or dry out within a month. I would gladly spend a little extra and buy Estee Lauder products because they are definately worth every bit the money!

I got my Estee Lauder Lash XL maximum length mascara about a year ago and I really like the product, however, it's not the best product out there. When I wear the Estee Lauder Lash XL mascara, it does make my eyelashes look longer, but it doesn't make them look much longer than some of thier other mascaras. I have used this mascara as well as Estee Lauder's volumizing mascara, which works better than the eyelash-lengthening mascara. In general I would reccomend this product, because it's not that the mascara DOESN'T work at ALL, but rather that it doesn't work as well as it should. There are much better mascara products out there if you are willing to pay a little extra. Estee Lauder mascara is not the cheapest but it is definitely good quality for the price. If you want a product that works really well I would recommend Mary Kay's mascara more than the Estee Lauder Mascara. Thank you for reading this review and I hope it helps.

Normally I love Estee Lauder products, but when I started using the Lash XL Maximum Length Mascara, it didn't give me the wow factor I expected. The color I always wear is black and with my other Estee Lauder mascaras I have had really black, thick, long lashes. I applied it as with any other mascara, and I got black eyelashes, they were slightly thicker, but I couldn't see any extra length.  I let it dry and then did a second coat.  My eyelashes were improved. I want a mascara that does the job in one go.  I don't mind re-applying if I am going dancing in the evening, but having to do two coats first thing, is too much of a chore for me. The mascara stays well and I have no problem removing it with a good quality cleanser.  However, I will not be purchasing the Estee Lauder Lash XL Maximum Length Mascara again.  I think that the title does not reflect the product. I am now back to my other Estee Lauder mascara, More Than Mascara, and my Lancome double mascara.
