My passport 8500 failed me at a critical point, when I really needed to know when I was being monitored. After I got slapped with a huge ticket I decided to just sell my passport 8500 online through an auction site and have since gone without it. I got tired of the tickets and the community service, in addition to the higher insurance rates. I have since taken a mixture of the metro and now drive a much slower car, a Honda CRV. this combination has fortunately kept me out of trouble so far. The metro is cheaper for transportation as it saves me on gas and does not allow me to speed, the slower car was unintentional but that too keeps me out of trouble. The simple fact is that the Passport cannot always keep you out of trouble and you might as well drive slower or find other measures like I did.

My husband has had one of these of some sort or another for 25 years. He uses them every single time he drives. He is obssessive about it since he drives on the speedy side. He probably has a guardian angel on his hood as the people at church tease us about, but he is a very safe driver except for speed. Anyway, he has the red one of these. They do not last forever. They tend ot wear out after a few years and the technology seems to become obsolete as new radar technology is developed. He is considering getting another one for his birthday now. He doesn't get the fanciest with all the bells and whistles, but he does believe they are very good and he cannot drive without it. I believe on long trips this has definitely saved us quite a bit of money in the long run. Sometimes they do go off because of electronic eyes on doors in stores or if another car has a different type of radar detector (I have forgotten the name) that actually sends a false reading to the cops. These types are actually illegal. I believe Escort has overcome many of these problems, but they are difficult.

I think that this passport 8500 radar detector is extremely reliable. I think if you are an avid user of such devices, for whatever reason, you will find that it does its job. It is pretty accurate on what it picks up. I rememember when I bought a detector and it picked up on random things when I passed by convenience stores, it would bleep for some odd reason. Moreover it is really dependable and consisten. It is also reasonably priced for what you get it. Always there will be that occasion where the bleeper goes off and you have no idea if it was accurate or not, but that always happens. It is really easy to use and install so it can be used for novices to experts. Lastly, if you are hesistating to buy it, don't! It is extremely well priced for your needs, whatever they may be! If you are willing to pay for quality and dependability this is the radar detector to get, other ones dont come close.

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Laser Detector is an excellent radar detector that's made for use in the United States. It attaches to the windshield using vacuum suction cups which work well for the first year or so of use. Unfortunately over time these suction cups lose their shape and will cause the radar detector to fall. You can consider getting the optional visor holder to hide the Passport 8500 X50 on the visor. You can then get an extension cord for the power adapter to route the wires along your windshield and a-pillar then behind your dash. The range for the Passport 8500 is very good, much better than the budget radar detectors sold by Cobra and like manufacturers. The higher upfront cost will save you thousands in tickets and insurance surcharges so in my mind it is well worth the cost. I would recommend this radar detector to anyone who drives above the speed limit regularly. Remember, speed safely!

What would I have done without you! I never owned a radar detector until I met my husband. He had an Escort - Passport 8500 Radar Detector since he drove a sporty car and he was a guy. I didn't think I would ever have the need for one since I drove the speed limit eight five percent of the time. It wasn't until I bought a car with a V6 engine that I soon realized I needed something to help me out. The car had such quick pick up and was so smooth that sometimes I didn't even realize how fast I was going. It scared me to think I could be going so fast and not even realize it. I went ahead and invested my hard earned money to buy what my husband said was the best radar detector, the Escort - Passport 8500. It was the same one he had so I had some experience using it. It turned out to be a lifesaver. Not only did it beep when I needed it too but it forced me to pay attention to my speed. It kept me at a safe speed for the sake of myself and other drivers around me.

If you cannot afford the valentine v1 radar detector, this is probably your best buy to stay clear of the police. If you frequently speed, you must get one of these. I cannot say how many times this has saved me from a speeding ticket. Perhaps one bad thing about this unit is that it does not have voice alerts but to some people, that is not a feature that will really be missed. After using this for over 2 years, the amount of false alarms were very low compared to low end radar detectors that I have used. Although the range might not be as good as other radar detectors, it more than makes up for that with its features of signal detecting. It is continously scanning all around you for potential threats but you have to keep in mind, it is up to you to avoid a ticket. You cannot depend solely on this unit here. It acts merely as a reliable warning system. A good mounting spot would be somewhere up around teh rearview mirror. Just make sure it doesn't block your view.

Best of all the, Passport 8500 radar detectors is not prices ridiculously high, but is instead affordable and reasonably priced. The build quality is superb and the thing is literally unbreakable. I have dropped it a ton of times, mostly in the car. It has barely a scratch on it and continued to work flawlessly. This has been, by far, my most dependable radar detector. The Escort-Passport 8500 Radar Detector, seems to be able to prove what it claims.  A very unusual thing, when it comes to radar detector.  If you have to drive above the speed limit, then this is what to get, instead of a ticket. Not all detectors are full proof, but if you have a need for speed, and cant afford to pay the penalties, Escort is my best recommendation, priced reasonable as well.

I'm on my second Escort 8500. The first went missing when my car was stolen. I got the car back but of course the Escort was missing. This is a great unit. One of the best features is the ability to customize the sound and display. The unit also allows you to turn off certain alerts which helps when in congested areas. The 3.5mm sound out jack is a must have for my application. I use it on my motorcyel and my cars.I've had to use the customer service a few times and they have been very fast to respond. Also when you call Escort customer service you are calling the United States. Imagine that!
