I have owned the Escort Passport 8500 radar detector for four years. During this time, it has proven to be an outstanding purchase. It is easily operated, the controls are relatively simple to use, and it works extremely well. I primarily use it to monitor the highways (really!) instead of purposefully speeding. It always gives an early alert, and very few false alarms. Escort has advertised the fact that it is upgradeable, however I have yet to see any offers from Escort in this arena. Nevertheless, this is one fine product. Although it is not cheap ($350 at the time I purchased mine), I would buy another one. This is actually the second Escort that I have owned.
