As a mom of eight children, all nursed and baby-worn, I've tried several baby carriers over the years. The cheap ones are simply not worth the money, and after going through several of them I bought a Bjorn when my oldest was still a baby. I loved it and still think that it is a GREAT carrier, but a couple of babies ago I switched to an Ergo and never looked back. I had shoulder surgery between children, and even though three years went by before having the next baby, I found that the Bjorn hurt my shoulder once the baby was a couple of months old. I decided to try the Ergo since so many of my friends suggested it and I was truly amazed at the difference. I've had no shoulder pain and no back or muscle fatigue at all. In fact, I wore my 15 month old on my back while 7 months pregnant - I wore him all day long while canning 60 quarts of applesauce! I could never have canned while using a front-only carrier (never really cooked while wearing a baby in front) and certainly couldn't have used a front carrier when 7 months pregnant.
I thought that my babies would be frustrated about not being able to face out, but this wasn't a problem. I did feel a little uncomfortable using this with a teeny newborn (even with the infant insert) so I've used the Bjorn until they aren't so teensie. I just saw that they have improved the infant insert and I may try the new one with our next baby if we have one.
I am short (five feet tall) with a short torso but this works as well for me as for my 6'1" husband.
I highly reccomend this comfy, easy to use carrier! Try this one first!
