Pros

Gets rid of Heartburn, Taste is not bad, fruit flavored, less expensive than Tums

I don't have a chronic heartburn problem but there are times when it does hit me. That's when I want something to ease the discomfort and sometimes down right pain of heartburn. I have tried the old time remedies my parents tried but they never worked for me. My parents drank buttermilk or downed a tablespoon of vinegar but it always made mine worse. I used to take Tums until I found another just as good but less expensive.

Equate Ultra Strength Antacid Tablets - Fruit Flavored

I buy the bottle with 72 in it and of course I like the fruit ones so that's what I get. Right on the bottle they want you to know these are comparable to Tums Ultra and that they are not made by GlaxoSmithCline. They are the same size, look like and taste like Tums, they also work like them! That being said I take 2 when heartburn hits and a few minutes later I feel a whole lot better. These come in orange, lemon, lime and cherry flavors and if you sift through the chalky texture you can actually taste them...lol

I rarely have to repeat a dosage as one shot usually takes care of my unfortunate heartburn flair ups. I also prefer to let them slowly melt until they get small, seems to give a little less of the chalk flavor that way. I could give up my spicy foods but.....NAAAAA it ain't gonna happen! A Redneck does not give up his Spices!!

Nutritional Facts

Serving size=1 tablet

Yes these have a nutrition label but you won't kill your diet with them...lol Calories weigh in at 10, Carbohydrates 2g, Sugar 2g and Calcium is at 850mg. Stands to reason since each tablet contains 1000mg of Calcium Carbonate. A serving is two tablets but the dosage is 2 or 3 so adjust the above figures according to how many you take.

It also says not to exceed 7 tablets per day or take the maximum amount for more than 2 weeks. Health Alert here!!!! These do contain Soy so if your sensitive to soy please stay clear of these.

Bottom Line

When heartburn hits you feel like your insides are on fire but don't just sit there grab a couple of these and get some much needed relief. They are not too bad with their fruit flavor and if you prefer plain they have them too. At almost 1/2 the price as Tums they work just as good. Since I switched to Maxwell House coffee I have heartburn less but I still suffer on occasion and when I do I pop 2 in my mouth. Works great for me, perhaps they can help you as well!

Yep sometimes the first one doesn't quite do it. ;)

I admit, sometimes I need more than the first dose, but for a regular kind of mild heart burn they work well for me.

I hadn't thought of it that way but yes extra calcium is always good. ;)

Sounds like a great idea and I like the idea of that extra calcium too!
