Safe for Kids

4

This sunscreen is safe for kids, and it does provide strong protection from the sun. It also comes at a cheaper price. Combining the factors of effectiveness and cost, it is a good deal. Effectiveness SPF 50 is a strong sunblock, and it certainly is effective at reducing dangerous sunburns. No sunblock is perfect though. If one plans to spend all day in the sun, especially in a place where the rays get directed back of the sand and water, then breaks from the sun are always good. For our kids, it does provide good protection, such as when we recently went to Arches National Park and spent extended periods of time in the sun. Scent The scent of this sunscreen is about like your average sunscreen. It certainly does have a distinct smell, but it is not necessarily overpowering and irritating. Absorption The lotion itself absorbs into the skin pretty well. But it can leave behind a greasy feeling on the skin that does not rub into the skin. Combined with the sweat that can come from spending time in the sun, it can leave the skin feeling dirty and uncomfortable. Personally, I don't like the feeling, although it may not bother some.

We bought this product last summer before our trip to the beach. We have two young daughters and we are very careful about reapplying sunscreen every hour or so to our children. We did this on this trip and two days into our trip both of my children were extremely sunburnt. They looked like little red lobsters and my oldest ended up at urgent care with sun poisoning. We did not stay out in the sun or water for hours on end and we constantly reapplied this product throughout the vacation, but it was terrible. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

An average sunscreen, but rather thick.

I bought a bottle of Equate Kids Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 at the beginning of the summer.  Money is tight (as it is for everyone), so I figured I would buy this instead of our usual brand-name sunscreen.  I really wish I had paid extra for Coppertone! Ah, where to start...the sunscreen is way too thick - it is very hard to squeeze out of the bottle.  Once you use about half of the container, you have to remove the lid entirely to squeeze anything out at all!  And if your hands are wet, forget it - the bottle will slip around too much to control.  This sunscreen is not water resistant as the bottle says.  It only lasts a few minutes before reapplication is needed.  Putting on sunscreen at the beach is already a pain - but to do it this often is ridiculous. The bottle also says it is non-greasy.  The problem is that it goes too far in the other direction - it is sticky for about 10 minutes after you put it on!  Which means you have to stand there naked until it dries. When we finally got near the bottom of the bottle, the sunscreen came out separated.  I just bought it in May, so it isn't an old bottle.  In my opinion, it should last longer before separating.   In case you can't tell, I am highly dissatisfied with Equate Kids Sunscreen Lotion!  Just pay more for a name brand.
