Great Printer at a Great Price

4

I am thrilled with my purchase of the Epson Stylus NX400 All-in-One Inkjet Printer. The printer is very easy to use and even easier to set up. I was able to start printing in under 15 minutes from unboxing the printer and connecting to my wireless network. Print time is exceptionally fast - no waiting forever for pages to slowly print. This was a major selling point to me. My favorite part about the printer is the cost of ink cartridges. Ink prices seem to be getting more and more expensive and you receive less ink. Not with the Epson Stylus NX400. Ink prices are very reasonable and I have been impressed with how long the ink cartridges last. Print quality is equally as impressive. The addition of a scanner - which is just as easy to use - makes it the all around perfect all-in-one. I would absolutely recommend this printer. No other printer I have owned has ever come close to matching the capabilities of the Epson Stylus NX400. Update: 10/20/2013: After 4 years of heavy use the scanner no longer works. I am still able to print but as I can no longer scan I have replaced the Epson Sylus NX400 with the HP 3050a All-In-One Printer. Durability After 4 years of use, the scanner no longer works.

Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One Printer

I decided to buy this printer because of the price and the way it looked. I have been very pleased with the printing and the durability of the epson nx400. It prints quality photos, that I am proud to share with others. I like that I can hook my camera directly to the printer and print photos or through my computer. Text printing is also clear and ink is not too expensive. Performance I have never had a problem with my Epson NX400. It always does a great job of printing whatever I ask it to without any errors. Copy Quality Always great copy quality. Text, photos, no matter what I have had the printer print, it is clear and concise. Ink/Paper Use I feel the ink usage goes quite fast and if one of the cartridges is very low or empty, it will not print until you replace it. I haven't had any trouble with paper usage. I just use regular printer paper or photo paper. Ease of Use Very easy to use, instructions very easy to follow. I don't see anyone having a problem with operating this printer. Durability I have had this printer for several years, still going strong. Still prints like brand new. Design I like the design, that is one of the things that prompted me to buy it. I would buy another epson if I needed a new printer. I have had very good luck with this one.

Summarize this product in one sentence.

This printer is horrible!!! I'm not sure what others are doing to think this printer is decent. It is extremely expensive for cartridges and others mentioned when cyan runs out you can't even print black and white...wtf? Also the colored cartridges are blended in with the black ink even when you are printing word docs that require no color. I honestly was planning to keep it around just for scanning purposes because I upgraded to a laser printer...really the only way to go unless you like replacing your cartridges all the time even when you have barely used them, but they have just dried up within a few months. But I odn't think it is letting me scan now because I am out of ink???? That is the most ridiculous scam!!!! What a piece of crap!

Pretty good product

I've enjoyed this printer, it works really well for my needs. Every once in a while, it has trouble printing, but I believe that it's mostly a problem of linux compatibility (my system is currently ubuntu, though I've played with several different OS). A quick reboot usually fixes the problem. Making copies is swift and easy, printing black and white is speedy, color takes slightly longer. Overall I've been very pleased with this product. It's energy star certified as well. It's a bit larger than my last printer, because it has the top you can lift up to make copies. Also the copier surface is sloped, so the papers slide off if they're not full-sized pieces of paper. I can't speak to price--ours came free with a computer purchase and the friend who purchased it gave it to us. For a free printer, it's AWESOME! We've had it for several months, and aren't out of ink yet despite using it frequently.

Espon printer is an ink sucker!

2

My husband and I bought this printer because it was cheap...that should have been our first sign that it wasnt going to be up to par with other printers. At first this printer seemed to be perfect for us, lightweight, compatible with both our laptops and easy to use. However after the first couple of weeks using it we noticed that it uses a ton of ink! So when it came time for a refill I took to an store that refills ink cartridges, hoping it would be cheaper than buying a brand new one. Of course the Espon ink cartridges cannot be refilled, a new one has to be purchased. Another horrible thing about this printer is that once ONE color runs out (doesnt matter which one) the printer will not print anything at all!!! Even if the object you are printing does not require that specific color. Very bad thing when you need to print a lot for school and the red color has seemed to somehow run out...

The Epson Stylus NX300 is a money sink.

First let me start by saying this printer prints great and the scanner is easy to use. Now for the downsides. This printer uses an insane amount of ink for the most mundane print jobs. I have lowered the ink usage to the minimum and it still burns through ink. I have never had a printer need refills this often and to top it all off? Epson cartridges cannot be refilled so you cannot get discount ink like other brands! I'm actually about to buy another cheap printer for my couponing needs because I just can't afford the ink for the Epson at this rate considering I'm using the printer to try and SAVE money not burn through everything I saved in ink.   Given another chance I think I would have gone with an HP. The ink seems to be one of the cheapest at the refill places or it is relatively easy to do it yourself. I wish I would have known that when I bought this printer. BUYER BEWARE! If you are planning on printing a lot (in black and white without ink intensive images) then think of another before going for this one. Another thing is that you cannot print in black and white if you run out of color ink. If you run out, you're out of luck until you refill. No way around it!

The Epson Stylus NX400 is smooth, reliable and versatile.

I have always liked the Epsons for their versatility and easy use.  They have been very reliable and have very few breakdowns.  The NX400 has worked very well for me.  There have never been any paper jams or ink problems.  The printing is fast and very clear.  I like being able to scan, copy and print all with one unit, and as an all-in-one printer unit, the Epson is very affordable. On the negative side (which is not very serious), I noticed that the menu screen - while being very nice and clear to read, can sometimes be hard to navigate, especially when trying to learn the system to begin with.  Furthermore, ink can be expensive and sometimes is difficult to find in local stores.  Another thing I noticed is that the top finish on the scanner tends to scratch very easily, even when just wiping off dust. However, as a working printer unit, I must say the Epson is one of the best I've come across.  I have been pleased with the long-running performance of the machine and will definitely choose Epsons in the future.

Great wireless printer

5

This was our first wireless printer we ever bought, and we adore it! It is easy to set up, and to attach to your wireless network. Once it's connected to your wireless network, you can print very easily from any printer (including your laptop) anywhere in your home! In addition, you can scan remotely, which is incredibly helpful as well. We've never had good luck with scanning and printing, but this one is fabulous. We have used it with both a PC desktop and our two Mac laptops, and it has worked like a charm with all of them. The ink runs out relatively quickly, but that is a somewhat small price to pay for such a great printer that works seamlessly with the wireless networking system you have set up at your house. The only problem we have had is that when the ink runs low, it won't let you print at all, even using the other print cartridges (i.e. if you are trying to print in color, it won't let you print in just black and white, at least form the printer).

Epson NX400 is an excellent printer

I have had the Epson NX400 printer for over a year, and I have not had a single problem with it.  It is very easy to use, and printing is quick.  A wonderful printer, and it gets used alot for photos, school papers, printing off coupons, and long documents.  Am very pleased with the Epson NX400 printer.

Consumer Reports rates this high, but real user doesn't.

The Epson N X400 All-in-One printer is ideal as far as my limited desk space goes; it combines in one unit a printer, copier, and scanner. It's bigger than my last printer, and it's bigger than my last scanner. But it's smaller because it's not two separate units. Also positive is that the printouts from this printer are very good. Plus it has a setting where you can turn off color printouts so you print with only black ink. This saves a lot of money because color ink is so expensive. However, although Epson brags about this scanner's ability to scan photographs, because I've also owned a standalone scanner, I can tell you this scanner does not produce the quality scans that my other scanner does. And my other scanner is an inexpensive one and is really old, more than 10 years old. Also the software for scanning with this Epson unit doesn't have many functions for editing photos. But the two inconveniences of this Epson printer that drive me crazy and will drive you crazy, too, are 1) It is EXTREMELY difficult to load paper into this printer correctly to avoid a paper jam. Paper jams almost every time I print something, wasting a lot of paper and time and ink. 2) You can load only a few sheets of paper at a time if you want to avoid a paper jam. So, almost every time you want to print, you have to go and get three or four sheets of paper. You can't just load a stack (even 1/4-inch stack) at once.
