For years I had a simple Epson printer that came with my first Gateway PC. It was slow, but reliable. It even made it through a flood. (No kidding.) It got full of water. I turned it upside down (outside of course) let it drain, and aired it out on a sunny day. When I plugged it back in...IT WORKED!
I've tried one Lexmark. It lasted only a little over a year. And there was no generic ink cartridges to be found anywhere. Expensive! I went back to Epson. I found my current one on-line at the Epson Store. Then I went to "Clearance Center". I found a refurbished Stylus CX-4800 for $50.00...shipping included. It carried a one year warranty, same as a new one. What the heck...I bought it and I like it.
I get my 'generic' cartridges through printpal.com. I can buy all four cartridges through them about the same price as one through Office Max or Office Depot.
