Have you ever been to a site so inadequate, so laughable, so vile, you wonder how the heck could it exist? Epinions is that site.
I’ve read most of the reviews on here, and they’ve all nailed the point especially toward the nasty members and advisors to the site.
I am AnimeMovieMan a member for about a year on site. Epinions has got to be one of the worst sites the Internet has ever seen. Their whole reputation is built on lies “unbiased reviews” a family friendly site. Oh really a site that encourages it’s members and advisors to harass, revenge rate, stalk, and even issue death threats to members a family site? I think not.
I) The pay on the site was worthless. Reviews were literally just pennies. In fact, the terrible abusive management at the site, didn’t even pay me for the reviews I had written.
II) Terrible customer service-When I reported the users and advisors who were harassing me and downgrading my reviews from Very Helpful to Somewhat Helpful the customer service did nothing. This was of course a common thing with the site. If you retaliated with the same thing, you can bet your butt you'd be banned in no time. Laughable.
III) Abusive members and advisors-I don’t know who called these people “advisors” but none of them don’t know anything about the subject. Often the advisors are no better than the harassing members of the site. In fact the users laughable users trolling and harasssing me were all advisors. The user Guile176 was an advisor who made it his life's goal to downgrade all my reviews from VH to SH. Of course he wasn't alone he had other fellow insane friends like Xeno3998, and DavidCashen to troll me and harass me.
The user DavidCashen even got a ticket for copyright infringement when he copied my profile to try to make it like his own. Yes we are talking major league losers here. As with most insane abusive members, no punishment was actually given of course. If other members cared to bash members that was ok. Hell you could even bash a user and call it a review. A really pitiful soul called FezMonkey tried to write a review on me. This user's reviews were all poor. Of course his recollection of the events I went through were all warped, idiotic and had no credibility whatsover. Again though the fact this was actually approved by the site says all you need to know about this laughable, poor site Epinions and its users.
Given their obvious pull, advisors and members who joined up could get away with anything throwing any verbal insult you can think while the customer service did nothing because as many of you know may image is everything to a company even if it's a phony image.
Again nothing new this stuff is coming. However, what you might not also know about is the death threats, email spam, racism and insults that also aren’t mentioned on the site. I experience all of this and accumulated enough evidence to put away many members of the site. Again with such a corrupt company like Epinions all this would be ignored.
However, that was then since then enough evidence and criticism from ex-members has surfaced that Epinions as try as they do can no longer keep up their phony image. Since then more review sites have popped out on the internet that Epinions is a mere blip on the horizon for consumers.
Here is the funny part though. Epinions did not hurt me in any way. Most of my reviews on the site well received and that has continued today. I am an editor at TV.com been put in Community Spotlight and have gotten a lot of respect at places like at other review sites. I’ve gotten enough praise to last me a lifetime.
So in effect not wasting my time with the site has helped me to grow as a reviewer. I’ve met so many people and made so many friends that a site like Epinions is a mere footnote in my life. Just like many others I realized very early how mediocre and laughable the site is and have moved to bigger and better things.
