Yesterday I reviewed the Coleman Classic Fluorescent Lantern.
Well, when we returned from Key Colony Beach in the Keys we saw the customary commercials on TV about the approaching Hurricane season and the need to update/restock our supplies. A timely message.
So, having little to do I went over to the neighborhood Home Depot to have a look around. Since I had just gone for my lungs feeding the Coleman Lantern its 8 D Cell Energizers, emergency lighting was on my mind.
That's when the Energizer Weather Ready 245 Hour LED Room Light caught my attention.
With its 8 LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) and its need of only 4 D Cells it got my attention. Could I really expect 245 hours of operation? After all, the Coleman only offered 18. I just had to pick one up. No, actually I picked up three.
So far
Well, I've had one burning for 72 straight hours and it isn't complaining. Not 245 mind you, but I'm already 4 times ahead of the Coleman. Wait. Actually I'm 8 times ahead since it takes 4 rather than 8 batteries. I expect its going to keep burning for a very long time, even by South Florida power failure standards. I'm liking this lantern.
Now, as a room light. Get real! 8 LEDs are not going to really illuminate an entire room, at least not that brightly. But on the other hand, I'm not likely to accidentally step on my dog either. I'm still liking this lantern.
What I really like
This is a folding lantern. It can stand with its light source in any of several positions providing everything from a spotlight when fully folded to a table light when fully unfolded. When unfolded halfway it makes a pretty good desk lamp that will illuminate your keyboard without waking up your spouse.
The lantern is made of high impact plastic so the housing is virtually indestructible and LEDs are very durable withstanding bumps and jolts nicely.
The lantern has a folding plastic handle to allow it to be hung in typical lantern fashion.
My Viewpoint
This product is outright, a stone cold winner! By the way, did I mention that it generates almost no heat? For the $19.99 I paid for it I consider it one of the smarter emergency provision purchases we've made. In fact, I'll probably pick up 3 more. I am liking this lantern an awful lot. I think you will too.
