I love good, insightful movies, and this one really didn't disappoint me. First of all, an all-star cast lights up the screen in this riveting epic hailed as " a vivid dramatization of one of history's titanic turning points ". The year is 1942 and the Nazis are cutting a deadly swath through Russia. Under the leadership of Kruschev ( Bob Hoskins ), the citizens of Stalingrad are mounting a brave resistance, spurred by the exploits of their local hero, Vassil Zaitsev ( Jude Law ). An expert sniper, Vassili's deeds have become legendary - thanks to propaganda produced by Vassili's best friend, a... review »

Enemy at the Gates is one of the greatest war flicks to ever grace the footsteps of Film.   Jude Law stars as peasant named  Vassily Zaitsev turned sniper during the battle of Stalingrad.    His character  hides in the ruins of Stalingrad taking out dozens of enemy Nazis   His kills have become some sort of celebrated feat as every nazi he caps off is marked down on a score sheet and shown around town in the local headlines.  Vassily is the hero of today and for everyone around him , Giving everyone hope that soon the crucial times will pass.

Naturally though , need such a celebrity deceased. ...

This is a dramatized depiction of a very true and inspiring tale.  The tale is about who was arguably one of the 5 best snipers ever, no matter what uniform he, or she, wore.  The man this movie is mostly about, Vasily Zeitsev, was just an ordinary Soviet peasant until in June in of 1940, Hitler's German Army invaded the Soviet Union in Operation Barberossa.  Things were definitely looking bleak for the Red Army by the time the Germans reached Stalingrad.  But with the help of Vasily the sniper, and many, many more people like him, the German Army was defeated and forced onto the retreat.
