Enchanted —

Disney has such an fantastic catalog full of amazing films, wonderful classics that span nearly a century.  Amazingly, the newest addition, Enchanted is the best of all.  That's right, better than Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.  Wow, that it a bold statement, but while I love this movie the most, it wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable without the history of all these films.  Enchanted referrences so many Disney classics, and part of the fun in recognizing all of them, that is if you can.

The movie is about a beautiful maiden named Giselle who lives in the animated fantasy world called Andalasia.   One day after being chased by an ogre, she is rescued by the handsome Prince Edward.  The two immedietely fall in love and vow to marry each other the next day.  You know how it is in a world of fantasy.  Prince Edward's mother-in-law, Queen Narissa fears that Giselle will try and dethrone her, so she puts her special evil powers to work and pushes Giselle into a fountain/well.

Giselle falls through, down down down the hole and ends up crawling through a manhole in midtwon NYC.  She is briefly awed by the real world textures, and as she tries finding her way back to Andalasia she meets Robert Philip and his young daughter Morgan.  She ends up staying at his upscale apartment, and the two are involved in each other's lives.  Prince Edward is still trying to find his future bride, and Narissa is still using her evil powers and her royal gopher Nathaniel (who does all of her evil bidding) to try and kill Giselle.  Giselle is getting more used to the "real world" setting, much more than Edward is, and perhaps in the real world two people like these two would not make a happy couple.

Aside from all of the overt Disney referrences Enchanted has, it also embodies the things that make it a classic on its own.  First and foremost you have just a fantastic soundtrack, with songs like So Close, That's How You Know, True Love's Kiss and The Working Song.  I find myself singing these songs whenever the movie enters my mind.  The movie has that Disney magic to the nth degree.  Although Giselle is in the "real world" her fantasy world powers stay with her and are as powerful as ever.   Giselle is played by the beautiful Amy Adams (Talladega Nights) with the perfect posture and disposition of a fantasy world maiden which makes her character very believable.

I recommend this film to anyone and everyone.
