The Verdict - After 20 years of trying alarm clock after alarm clock, I finally found the queen mother of all alarm clocks.
The Facts - I'm not a light sleeper but I AM a vampirish sleeper. Not that I get up and wander around biting people at night. No, I mean that it has to be absolutely pitch black in my room in order to sleep. It's some sort of flaw in my brain. All I know is that it's been driving me nuts for years and driving my husband nuts as well as I make him run around the bedroom closing doors, drawing blinds and arrangind things so that not even a sliver of light penetrates the room.
So what does this have to do with alarm clocks? Well... have you ever noticed how bright the displays of digital alarm clocks are? Highly annoying. They light up the whole room! And since the thing is only about 6 inches from my head while sleeping, you can imagine how irritating this is for me.
I've tried all manner of configurations trying to dim the light but without much luck. I've also tried every type of alarm clock imaginable but never found one that I could completely dim the display or turn it way down.
But earlier this year I found this Emerson clock radio at my local Office Max and am FINALLY happy. It took 20 years but I finally found what I'm looking for.
It has a setting where you can completely turn the display off. It has a motion sensor on the front so if the cat walks in front of it or if I put my hand in front of it, it will display in bright annoying yellow. But the great thing is that it is not super sensitive so it stays off all night until I stick my hand right in front of the display to see what time it is.
The Emerson also has 2 alarms - one for me and one for my hubby - and it can be set so that it only sounds on weekdays, only on weekends, or all week long. You can wake to music or beeping. The buttons on top are good sized and it also has a sleep timer.
Star Power - *****Five Stars***** It's the perfect alarm clock. Finally! My search is over.
