Ellen Olson-Brown - Ten Stinky Babies —

The girls and I visit the library each week and even though we have a book shelf full of books we always manage to find more that we would like to read.  We usually choose a theme for the week and then all our books are chosen according to the them. Since now they are very interested in babies and playing at being mommy, one of our books this week was Ten Stinky Babies, by Ellen Olsen Brown.

Ten Stinky Babies is much like Ten Little Ladybugs as each page introduces your child to counting backwards starting with ten.  Using rhythm, rhyme and illustrations to reinforce the counting skills as well as making reading fun this children's book got a giggle from my girls all 6 times we read it. It quickly became one of the nighttime favorites.

The illustrations in Ten Stinky Babies were fun to see, and of course each one of the babies were stinky because of dirty diapers and each one got a diaper change as the pages change.   While fun and entertaining and I like rhyming - the rhymes in this book were a little choppy and at times while they made sense, they didn't actually fit.  For me this was annoying as I would be reading along and then hit a bump in the "page" but the children didn't seem to mind and after all that's why I am reading.

Ten Stinky Babies teaches counting skills in a lively and humorous manner and while the word choices may not also be the smoothest, the children enjoy the counting and pictures very much.

LOL. My mother was. She had a baby at age 42. My older sister had a baby a year after my younger sister was born so they were more like siblings. Too weird!

If only we could all have as youthful grandmother as you would be! Here's a scary thought - I could still be reading to my children when I am reading to my grandchildren! :)

This sounds like a cute book. Someday I'll be reading to my grandkids. DID I JUST SAY THAT? Ack!
