It was a good book and a good book for a group of women to get together to discuss. I do not think the messages in the book are universal to all women or to all people though. For many women Elizabeth Gilbert's story may be inspiring, but I was not looking to be inspired - I was reading a book for a neighborhood book club and it was good - we had good discussion - and there are some great messages in the book. But India dragged on and on and on - and it was great once she got to the rooftop and learned the lessons there, but otherwise, it droned on like a metaphysical Groundhog Day.
I have great respect for the author for sharing such a personal story and appreciation for people who are dealing with depression, trying to find a happier path in life, struggling in a bad marriage, etc. But, I felt like Elizabeth Gilbert had a bad attitude sometimes in Italy -and there were times that I wanted to put the book down and not finish reading it because i was tired of her poor me attitude - yeah, it sucks to go to Italy for three months and eat carbs all day without worrying about the 30 pounds you are going to gain - you poor thing. The 150 people I saw at the gym this morning are planning your pity party, OK?
It is a good book, on a scale of 1 to 10 it's a 7.23.
