My rheumatologist prescribed me Cymbalta for fibromyalgia pain. She was involved in the end-stage clinical trials for the drug. I stayed on Cymbalta for about six months before discontinuing it. I was not happy with my experience.
First, I got limited, if any, symptom relief from Cymbalta. It didn't do much for either my pain or my fatigue. At the same time, any limited positive results it did have were negated by the unpleasant side effects of the drug.
Cymbalta is an SNRI, and is also used to treat depression. Well, Cymbalta affected my moods, but not in a good way! I felt as though it compressed all my emotions into a very limited range. I was never sad, but I was also never particularly happy, or creative, or anything else. I felt as though ti stripped me of my personality.
Furthermore, it had unpleasant urinary side effects. I ended up discontinuing the drug, against the recommendation of my doctor, after about six months. I was lucky to not have any of the awful Cymbalta withdrawl symptoms that some people have!
