Elf Review Summary

Elf is "one of the funniest Christmas movies ever," and fans want to warn you that watching it will "bring out the kid in you." Will Ferrell stars, along with James Caan, Bob Newhart, Edward Asner, and Mary Steenburgen, in this film of a boy that is raised by elves and leaves the North Pole to go find his real dad in New York City. While fans readily admit that "the plot is rather simple," they also find Elf to be "a delight for adults and fun for children." Many reviewers admit to watching this film several times each holiday season since it was released in 2003, as they enjoy Ferrell's comedy style of being "silly, naughty, juvenile, and just plain weird." Also appreciated is that "there is no swearing, sex, nudity, or blood and guts." Elf is "amazing Christmas fun!" Vince starred in a similar movie, though somewhat less funny, in 2007, Fred Claus.

As I sit here watching Elf for the 5th time this holiday season, I realized I never reviewed it!  A few days ago I had a friend tell me they never saw Elf, so I figure there may be more out there like her!  Many people feared Elf because they think Will Ferrell is annoying.  While I do like Will Ferrell, I also know people who DON'T like him but DID like this movie!  Elf is a family friendly movie for all ages to bring on the holiday cheer!

Will Ferrell plays Buddy the Elf.  He grew up in the North Pole with the rest of the elves, but when he gets older, the elves realize it is time to tell...

With the holiday season approaching, my husband and I put a few holiday movies at the top of our Netflix queue. One of the choices was Elf, a 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell. Will Ferrell is not one of my favorite actors, but my husband loves him. I have to say that his performance in this movie, had me liking him a little bit more!

Elf

Elf
has a teriffic cast of actors. Other than Will Ferrell, you will find Bob Newhart, James Caan, and Ed Asner in starring roles. The movie is directed by Jon Favreau. The plot is rather simple. The story begins with an infant who crawls into Santa's toy...

I had always assumed that Elf would be a film with some crude humor. Not that I would have minded, as I've definitely been known to enjoy that type of movie, but I just don't want it mixed up with my Christmas movies. Christmas movies are supposed to be warm and full of spirit with a message about believing in the end. Once I finally couldn't avoid it anymore, I was shocked to find Elf as exactly what I always wanted in a Christmas movie.

Will Ferrell plays Buddy the elf. He wasn't born an elf, but a human, and was raised by elves at the North Pole. It wasn't long before he was outgrowing everything...

Elf is one of my favorite movies of all time!  I can't get through the holiday season without watching Elf at least once.  Although sometimes I watch it a few more times than that.  Will Ferell is hilarious and I could watch his movies all day long.  Elf has that "dumb funny" attribute.  "Buddy the Elf" is so serious about everything.  It's not like he's trying to be funny.

"Buddy the Elf"  is a human and has always believed that he was an elf until "Papa Elf" has to sit down and explain to Buddy that he is not an elf.  He then travels to New York from the North Pole and tracks down...

this is one of the best christmas movies of all time. this boy is raised as an elf, decides he's no good at tinkering and goes to new york city. he finds his dad, a huge publisher and tries to become instant father and son, the hilarity starts from the beginning and never ends. Will Farrell is amazing and keeps you laughing the whole time. The cast was great, and I have to see this movie at least 5 times during the holiday season. Not including the times it comes on tv. If you are looking for a great message, this is it.

We love ELF. This movie is great .it doesn't matter what time of yeaar it is, we watch it year round as a family. My kids love seeing the reindeer flying over NYC at the end Wil Farrell is great as the son looking for his father. He lets you see things almost as if he was a child being in New york City by himself. He seems so innocent. The trouble he gets into is great, but nothing to far out there. it is kept real, well as real as a movie with Santa Claus in can be. I almost find myself believing in sant Claus myself sometimes. it is amazing ewhat you can do if you just have faith and believe... review »

What else can I say about Elf except, amazing.  This is a classic Christmas movie.  Will Ferrell nails the part in this movie and that is what makes it so much fun to watch.  This is a movie that we pull out every single Christmas season.  We love sit down with a cup of "the world's greatest coffee" and enjoy the ride.  The best part about this movie is that it is totally appropriate for pretty much all ages.  It is great to have a truly funny movie that is not filled with a bunch of vulgar or inappropriate trash.  One of the other reasons that this is such a great movie is because of the...

By far one of the funniest movies ever made, classic vintage Will Farrell at his best. Will Farrell doesn't stop making you laugh in this christmas movie, where he convinced me that he might just really be an ELF in real life. Just Kidding. Very believable character Buddy goes on a journey which can only be described as funny, amusing, entertaining, fun for the whole family, easy to bring you holiday cheer, packed with enough laughs to keep you giggling for hours at how Childish Will is able to portray himself as. Awesome movie, that I must watch every time it is aired on television, I own...

I have watched the movie Elf several times. I usually watch it around Christmas and each time it is as funny as the next. The great thing about it is it is appropriate for the family and its a good movie for people of all ages. Will Ferrell is very funny in this movie as he is in most of his movies. Will's character Buddy was an orphan until an elf took him in as his own and raised him as his son. Buddy is raised in the north pole with elves and as he grows he begins to realize he is different. His father then tells him that he is really a human and that he is not is real father which send him...

The perfect holiday movie to enjoy with the whole family.  A delight for adults and fun for children.  Will Ferrel is at his best when he does goofy characters and this movie showcases his comedic talent.  James Caan and Bob Newhart add to the fun with a well-rounded supporting cast.

As Buddy, the elf, Will Ferrel delights and triggers some heartfelt emotions on his quest to find his father.  Abandoned as an infant he's raised on the North Pole with Santa, as an elf.  Too big for the elf world, Buddy finally decides to seek out his own kind and in the end, races to save Christmas.

Elf is a fun,...

Elf makes me laugh the whole way through.  I can watch this movie 5 times during the holiday season.  I'm excited to watch it with my 3 year old daughter this year, I'm sure she'll love it too.

Will Ferrell's comedy style is right up my alley.  Silly, naughty, juvenile and just plain weird!  Love it!

So many things are great about the movie.  I love that Mary Steenburgen (I'm certain that I spelled that wrong, sorry!) is in it.  Where has she gone to, anyway!?  I love that he eats the ABC gum and the syrup on spaghetti makes me gag and is so funny!

Most of all, I love that they found a way...

"Elf" is one of my all-time favorite holiday movies.  Will Ferrell is absolutely hilarious in one of his funniest movies and there are some the greatest quotable one-liners in this movie.  The supporting cast is also excellent.  One of my favorite scenes is the sing-a-long in the shower between the two main characters. It's also great that Will Ferrell spends almost the entire movie walking around in an elf costume!  You'll laugh throughout the movie and wince at some of the mistakes he makes as an elf in New York City.  It's a fun, feel-good movie that you can watch with friends or with family. ... review »

Normally I am not a Will Ferrell fan but this movie changed my mind. The stupidity he brings to all his movies works in Elf! This is a wholesome movie that has become a Christmas classic in my family. Even my husband, normally a bit of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas movies, will even sit down and watch this with us.  Rare for a movie in this day and age, there is no swearing, sex, nudity, or blood and guts.  Great movie for a holiday party where you want something in the background that you don't have to worry about rushing the kids out of the room at specific times. Hilarious, clean fun.... review »
