As I sit here watching Elf for the 5th time this holiday season, I realized I never reviewed it! A few days ago I had a friend tell me they never saw Elf, so I figure there may be more out there like her! Many people feared Elf because they think Will Ferrell is annoying. While I do like Will Ferrell, I also know people who DON'T like him but DID like this movie! Elf is a family friendly movie for all ages to bring on the holiday cheer!
Will Ferrell plays Buddy the Elf. He grew up in the North Pole with the rest of the elves, but when he gets older, the elves realize it is time to tell him the truth... he was adopted. When Buddy learns the truth, he goes to New York in search of his father. His childlike and naive spirit makes many humans wonder about Buddy, but even so there's no doubt he's a real nice guy!
Throughout the movie, we see Buddy interact with many people. His father, James Caan, can be considered quite naughty as he seems to think work is more important than family. He is not too happy to have this full sized elf trying to say he's related to him. The two of them play off of each other well and make a great team. Zooey Deschanel plays a worker at the department store where Buddy ends up getting a job. She's kind of a sad person who definitely needs a dose of Christmas cheer! Daniel Tay plays Buddy's new "brother" since he is the son of James. He seems to be the only one to believe in Buddy, even if he thinks he's a little weird.
This movie is humurous and heart warming at the same time! It is certainly funny to watch Buddy try to fit in as a regular adult when he is so used to acting like a child. Plus, Buddy absolutely LOVES Christmas and can't understand anyone who doesn't. Buddy says what's on his mind which causes laughs as he gets himself in trouble. However, there are also lessons throughout the movie about why Holiday Cheer is important. Buddy loves Christmas and possibly he can teach others in the movie to love it as well.
This film is good for all ages since there is nothing really bad about it. Kids will love Buddy, adults will too! It doesn't matter what you think of Will Ferrell's other efforts, give Elf a try. After all, it's on TV 12 times a day right now so you can watch it for free. Enjoy :)
