Where you one of the first Mac heads in line this AM for the new iPhone? Are you planning to get one? Tell us if Apple's new upgrade is all it's cracked up to be once you've had some time to test it out.

I work for Sprint Nextel and the company has an iPhone-like device called the Instinct. Besides costing less than the iPhone, the Instinct has a less expensive monthly plan that includes a lot of stuff that costs extra in the iPhone, such as texting, video and music. Further, Sprint's high-speed (called "3G") network covers much more area than AT&T's 3G network. In fact, I'm getting high-speed service from Sprint in my Nowheresville home in the Virginia mountains as I write this.

The iPhone is definitely cool and if it is a must-have accessory for you, then get it. If you might be interested in doing more for less, take a look at the Instinct.

Several people in the Viewpoints office (6 of us at the moment) have the original iPhone and/or the new iPhone 3G. Check out my review of the iPhone 3G.

I'm not on a 3G phone but I can say that the upgrade to the 2.0 software is great. I don't really use my phone as a phone, I mostly use it as a browser and now that I can get 3rd party apps on it, its great. Bloomberg and WeatherBug both put the built in apps to shame, and the Twitterific client is the best mobile app I think I've seen.

As a recent convert to the Apple iPhone (2.5 days and counting), I'm impressed with the little device. My biggest concern at this time is battery life. If you use the 3G network extensively, the battery runs down in a day - a tad short - especially if you're traveling and don't have a place to plug in to recharge. Otherwise this is the best smartphone on the market today. Read my review to get my initial impressions of the Apple iPhone 3G.

QUESTION: Does anyone know of Apple fixing the keyboard on the Iphone so that it will turn sideways to text????

I think it is a programming issue because other app's turn when you turn the phone sideways.
