Everyone will probably be glad to know that this is hopefully my last word(s) about McAfee Security software problems and complications.

I wrote a review about McAfee a few days ago and am really surprised that only six people have read it and it has received no Helpful Votes.  I'm not complaining (REALLY I'm not) but I am genuinely surprised because a Yahoo tech told me over the phone yesterday that they have been receiving "many calls" about this problem, except that most people don't seem to realize that it is a McAfee problem and they think there is something wrong with their Yahoo connection.

By the time I caved in and phoned for help, McAfee had paralyzed my computer so much that none of my "links" worked and it took forever just for me to follow the steps the Yahoo rep was telling me to do.  Thank God, he was knowledgable and patient but my system was moving so slowly, he finally had to take over remote control just to finally "scrub" the McAfee from my computer.  The minute the McAfee security software was gone and I rebooted, everything immediately went back to normal except that by now my computer communication with the printer was shot and I had to uninstall and reinstall my Lexmark software.

NOW everything is fine.  Don't bother reading my review, here it is in a nutshell -- if you have recently installed McAfee Security software and suddenly nothing is working, or taking forever to work -- THAT may be it.  According to the guy from Yahoo, McAfee works fine for some people and is a disaster for others, even sometimes those with new computers.

Take care everybody and have a nice weekend!

Just found this board. Too late, Anna,  I already read your interesting review and gave you a helpful vote! : )

Wow. I think McAfee acted more like a bug than security. Glad we didn't sign up for that one. Thanks, Anna!

I'm a telling ya -- I would almost rather have a hacker in my computer than McA!

McAfee works just fine for some people, otherwise they would be out of business.

Sorry I just found your post and I agree with you on McAfee it is terrible.  I have been having so many problems with my PC running really slow because of all of the processes it uses.  Because it came free with Comcast, I was trying to save some funds, but what a mess.  I used to use AVG or Avast in which I have been really pleased.  Especially Avast, my only drawback is in this economy, it was free for a year and then you had to pay - did not offer any discounts, etc.  Maybe we could all write to them and discuss it ummmmm.  Just my .02.:)

I always had viruses slip through McAfee on my laptop with XP. I have Norton on that one now (and I have always had it on my desktop PC) and I haven't had any problems or conflicts. Dr. Norton still will slow you down. So much has to be checked because people are always coming up with new and improved ways to destroy your information. You may have to deal with some slowness no matter what, but if you are getting tons of conflicts and crashes, you shouldn't have to deal with that, but no - you wouldn't want a hacker instead!!!  :) That falls under the "be careful what you wish for" clause. ha ha ha

Myself and others I've helped with McAfee installations through their Comcast accounts have had no issues with it (yet).  The more RAM you have on your machine, the less impact McAfee will have on performance.  You need to put the virus scanner on the scheduler so that it's not performing a scan while you're in the middle of something else.  I've used Avast! and like it a lot.  AVG-free only does anti-virus & anti-spyware. I'm probably paying for McAfee through my Comcast account but it's functional & non-intrusive. Until it starts flaking out I'll leave it be.

I'm glad McA is working out for you.  The Yahoo tech who helped me scrub my system said that McA had worked for him on his home computer.  I guess it is either the agony or the ecstacy -- no middle ground!
