I have a Philips 19-inch LCD HDTV and it's pretty good. Not only is it a good looking HDTV (with a built-in digital tuner), it also works pretty well as a computer monitor.

However, a 19-inch HDTV is pretty small, even for a dorm room. If you're going to be watching much HDTV, I recommend a larger unit. Try to get one that's at least 22 inches.

I would say to avoid store brands from Walmart (Ilo) and Best Buy (Insignia), and go with a decent name brand. Some good ones are Philips, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony, Panasonic, Sharp and Vizio.
