Her christmas duet with the Pogues aside, my first exposure to Kirsty Maccoll was her single "Walking Down Madison" in the early '90's, which really intrigued me, as her lyrics spoke of homelessness, apathy, and simply the danger in the innercities.  After buying the album, I found her songs varied from witty and satiric to social commentative to simply personal.  Her lyrics range from the environment ("Maybe It's Imaginary") to the sassy and sexy ("My Affair").  Her music styles are diverse, from the more hard feel (including a popular british musical thing of having a rapper do their thing in the middle of a song) of "Walking Down Madison" to the mexican horn stylings in "My Affair" and "Halloween".

Her music is top notch, and I love the fact that you think with her lyrics--whether being touched by a social issue or smiling because of the wit.  Either way, I love listening to this album both for the music and the lyrics.
