I purchased this product for my family several years ago, and it has worked fine so far. It has plenty of speeds in order to blend, frappe, liquefy, or otherwise mix your ingredients of interest. It also has an ingenious "pulse" feature that allows the user to turn off the blender and press the "pulse" button for short bursts of blending power. This is especially useful when blending ingredients that might be easily over-blended and/or require a more delicate approach. For the most part, though, I have used it to make protein shakes and fruit smoothies, and it has worked well and is easy to use. Blending Power Although the motor certainly isn't industrial grade, it has worked fine for my purposes without any signs of degradation or wear. However, the motor may be bogged down or jammed by ice or large chunks of ice; but removing the lid and adjusting the contents will usually alleviate that problem. Just remove it from the device first so you don't accidentally press the pulse button and spray yourself with smoothie......not that I did or anything... :-) Versatility At the time I purchased this product it came with a food processor attachment as well as the standard blender. Ease of Cleaning The blender is best cleaned when disassembled, which can be done by unscrewing the bottom. However, some force must be applied when assembling the blender in order to make sure the gasket doesn't leak, which means it is also difficult to remove. Durability The blending attachment is made of thick, heavy glass and seems very durable. Further, I have had this blender for about 10 years with no signs of problems; and the last Oster blender my family had lasted about 40 years.

I honestly knew I was getting a cheap blender when I bought this. It was more of a let down in some areas but a big surprise in others. When I first got it, I intended it to be a temporary item that I would replace with a better quality blender once it wore out. Well it's still running, after a few years. I didn't expect that. But what was a huge let down was the brushed nickel finish is just a lame paint job on plastic. All well, you get what you pay for right. Over all, this blender is okay. I primarily use it to make smoothies. If I use too many frozen fruits, it bogs down. I then have to open it, use a spoon to stir it up some and add more liquid. In the end, it gets the job done. The easy clean speed is a joke! If you don't take it completely apart to wash and let dry, funky water can leak from the base when you pour. The black plastic boot is a horrible design and a pain to deal with. Honestly, I'm looking forward to this blender wearing out so that it forces me to upgrade. I will not buy another Oster blender.

So I didn't expect this Oster blender to work like a Vitamix, but I did expect better performance than one I can buy for twenty bucks. I have had this blender for several years, but I rarely have needed it, so it has only been used a couple dozen times, if that much. I mainly used it for smoothies and making hummus, and that was a chore, as it easily got bogged down and the blades just spun at the bottom. If you get just the right liquid to ice ratio you get a rotation of the contents from bottom to top, which is what a blender should do, but as soon as it thickens the top 3/4 of the contents stop moving and the bottom just whirs away. So you constantly have to stop and stir to get the air bubble out of the bottom, then it works for about three seconds before it boggs down again. Same with hummus. So I don't know why it has all the fancy settings for smoothie and such, or even the pulse button, because neither of these make it work well for those kind of ingredients. So not long ago I pulled the blender out to make some hummus and it was dead. Dead as a door nail. I thought, "another one for the trash heap!" but my spouse opened it up and thinks it might just be the fuse.

This Oster 14-Speed is my very first Blender in my very first home. All i can say are great and wonderful things about it. It does what a blender is suppose to do! I usually use my blender for salsas and smoothies. My salsas come out just perfect in just about 10 seconds of pushing that BEAT button... Leaving the salsa not to thick nor watery. My smoothies also come out fantastic in just about 20 seconds depending what you put into the blender! The ice in my smoothie comes out just right the first time without having to blend it again. This blender does everything perfect and i give it 5 stars... I wont be switching at all.. and when this one breaks i will be purchasing another Oster! oh and one more important factor! It's so easy to clean! Just 3 little parts to rinse and wash and waaalaaaa! Sparkling clean. You can't go wrong with any Oster product especially this Oster 14 Speed blender.

The Oster blender has a unique design. I like it when I do occasionally use it. Blending Power It does a good job blending you just have to have enough liquid to make sure all things in the blender get incorporated. Versatility I really cannot seem to tell the difference between all the differnet settings but it may be because I do not use it that often and wen I do I just seem to get a smothie. Ease of Cleaning There are a quite a few different parts sometimes I just use a mason jar so I do not have to get the pitcher dirty Durability I have had this for probably about five years and only use it every once in a while so it stilkl works great.

I think I might have been drawn in by the appearance and the different speed options of the Oster 6855 14-Speed Blender and overlooked the five-cup capacity of the blending jar (or whatever you call the glass container where you put in the food). This blender works just fine overall, but I feel like the blending jar makes up about 30-40% of the size of the whole thing while the control base is the remaining 60-70%. That is to say, I definitely was disappointed by the amount of food that I could fit in the jar, and the base just seems really bulky in comparison to the jar. I found myself stuffing food in the jar (within reason) that I never had a problem fitting into blenders that I thought were of similar size. I guess this was just an oversight on my part, but fair warning that it might not be a good selection if you frequently blend large quantities of food or drink. It's not that hard to clean - no more troublesome than any other blenders I've had, where I always took all the pieces apart to wash. The jar is supposed to be dishwasher safe, but I've been afraid to try it. It's probably fine.

I love this blender. We received it for a wedding gift and it wasn't one that we registered for but we use it on a weekly basis!! I love the various functions it allows: soup, baby food, veggies, nuts, sauce, dressing, milkshake, coffee, smoothie, frozen drink, ice crush and easy clean. I wasn't sure how easy it would be to make baby food in it but it was. It also makes frozen drinks really well. In fact, we don't use our drink machine anymore because it requires more work and clean up. This blender does most things that a food processor can do. The motor can get very hot if something gets stuck and isn't blending easily. This is an easy blender to clean up as well. I also like how it has a classy look and doesn't look cheesy like most blenders. If you are wanting a blender that is easy and fast to use but provides quality food and drinks, then this is the one to get!!

First of all, let me say how durable this blender is. I hate how so many appliances are made of flimsy plastic lately, and this metal blender is so much more heavy duty, and the glass part is fabulous as well. That being said, I have been disappointed with the way stuff gets stuck around the blades. However, the blades are sharp and slice through things as they should. I like the variety of settings you can use, as well as the setup of the dial. The opening in the lid is a nice touch, and makes adding stuff while it's blending an easy task.  I like that it comes apart easily to clean, as well as cleans easily. It can be placed in the dishwasher (well, not the electric part, of course), as well as hand washed. I have used this to puree fruits and vegetables, soups, and smoothies, as well as crush ice and mush cheese (long story). It's not a food processor, but as long as it's used as intended, to "blend," this does a very good job.

The metal frame and glass holder give the Oster 6854 14-Speed Blender a sleek appearance. Though a far cry from a Vita-Mix, it's also a mere fraction of the cost and a good every day blender. The glass jar holds five cups: perfect for a small family, but plan on making multiple batches if you're using it to entertain company. The Oster 6854 14-Speed Blender works well for mixing drinks, making dressing and even grinding flax seed. It can make a good smoothie, but you have to do it just right. The claim that it crushes ice without water is ridiculous. If you don't add liquid, the bottom inch gets pulverized, but it doesn't touch the upper layers. With enough liquid it blends great, but still might need occasional prodding from a spatula to get the smoothie thoroughly blended. If you're willing to be patient while making smoothies, the Oster 6854 14-Speed Blender is a great addition to the kitchen.
