This past weekend, I threw out my lower back. I don't know what I did, or how I did it, but it hurt. Badly. So, I called a friend and thought this would be a perfect excuse for a spa afternoon. Since we didn't have much advance notice, we decided to go to a small spa-Egea, in Evanston.
From the moment I arrived at Egea, I felt like it was such a soothing environment. The walls are water/aqua blue and there is "mood" music playing. It smells good and definitely gives off a calming feel. (It is also a small, intimate lobby, so don't expect grandeur)
You are immediately led to a changing room down a series of zipzag halls. You are asked to change into a robe and slippers. The "locker room" was small, yet charming. (apparently they have a few). It had orchids, lovely curtains to divide the space, nice shower stalls, a huge bathroom, etc. While it was charming, it definitely would have been really cramped if 2 or more people were in there. But, it was perfect for us!
Then, you are led to your private room. When I got in, I was asked to sit on the table and put my feet in soaking hot water. What a great way to kick things off! Then, I got a hot stone massage which definitely provided temporary relief to my ailing back. My "healer" asked questions up front so she knew my target spots. By the way, if you havent ever had a hot stone massage, treat yourself to one! It was $100 for an hour, but the best $100 I have spent in recent months. I was soooo relaxed, I almost could not get off the massage table!
The only downsides were that the place is like a maze, so you don't ever really know where you are going. And, the locker rooms are small. This didn't seem to be a problem during the times I was there, but if it were busy, it would definitely be cramped in Egea. Oh, and one last con-nobody knows how the heck to say EGEA. (it is more like IEA)
Overall, I walked out wanting to extend my session or sign up for a new one. I need to have hot stone massages more frequently. And, Egea was a charming spa with a warm, relaxing feeling and reasonable rates that you can get into last minute. So, I would definitely sign up again!!!
